Chase, Higgins, Boyd, Irwin, Iosivas, Jones.

Maybe Taylor makes it if they decide to pup or IR Jones, otherwise Jones takes his spot as the punt returner as well.

I think they’ll keep 7. Morgan may not be a good WR (as a pass catcher… but he can really block), but he’s a hella ST player and I think Simmons has enough sway that they’ll keep him on the 53… and maybe dress 6 WRs on Sundays. We haven’t seen a lot of Charlie Jones at PR, but he’s got good hands and even if he’s not getting a lot of yards initially, he’ll secure the football.

Just don’t think Taylor will make it… maybe on the PS, but he’s small, and doesn’t give you as much at WR as the other guys.

  2. Agree for the most part.

At OL, I still think Adeniji makes it... whether that's instead of Carman or Smith, or Ford, not sure. Or maybe Hill gets cut. Personally, I would get rid of Carman... granted, he had some good games at LT, but can he play any other position? Backups need to do that. If something happened to Brown at LT, you can slide Jonah over and Adeniji could play RT, or maybe La'El, once he gets off of PUP.

TE - I think Wilcox makes it... he's a guy they know well, he's healthy now. Two years younger. Solid ST player and I think he was ascending as a player last year. I like Hudson, but I suspect Hudson wouldn't get claimed. Bengals grabbed him off the wire late last year after the Giants cut him.

DE - I think they keep 10. Not sure if that means Davis, or Johnson, or Gunter. Thinking maybe Davis. The other two, I'd bring back on the PS if I could.

DB - I think Jalen Davis is a lock. Mike Thomas, love what he brings, but I could def see him getting cut and brought back on the PS. He's a 30-something safety and I don't think teams will want that. I'd give him an opportunity to come back on the PS, or even be a coaching assistant of some kind. He's got a lot to offer.

I think all of those are likely but I think Evans is safe.

They will keep 4 RBs again this year. None of the RBs have shown enough to make them not keep 4.

Dark Horse cut - Jackson Carman

Part of it depends on how they go, position numbers-wise. Seems like Evans has earned a spot. We'll see what happens with Tray'veon Williams coming back from the ankle, too, but I could see them keeping 4 there. Evans can still return kicks, as we've seen, and really, all three RB backups can play on STs... not just as return guys.

At OL, especially if they keep 9 on the 53, I could definitely see Carman getting cut - or traded. At least Adeniji can play T and G serviceably. With Scharping playing some C, he could knock Hill out and with Ford doing pretty well inside at G, and having some versatility to play T in a pinch, that helps his candidacy, too. And D'Onta Smith has reportedly looked better this camp... and then you have La'El likely getting PUP'd initially. So I know Adeniji isn't great, but I don't see him getting trucked like Carman seems to - in the preaseason,

At DL, could def see Gunter and Basham getting cut, but would like to see at least Gunter coming back on the PS. They've got an embarrassment of riches there, when you also add in Dominique Davis and Raymond Johnson.

Because he's a competitor? Maybe he's willing to take second chair for other (very good) reasons, but I could certainly understand if he's not willing to settle for that.

It’s certainly possible - supposedly that was the deal with Marvin Jones, even though he and AJ and Hawkins and Sanu were really tight, and he was really producing as a 2nd WR.

All of that said, I could def see the opposite for Tee, too… comfort with the offense, playing with Joe, friendships, etc..  Not saying he’d take a hometown discount, nor should he as he’s earned a big payday - and Tee has an agent who’s very competent and has the rep of getting big deals for his clients.

I love watching Tee, and he and Chase are elite players that I’d love to have around long-term. I like the other depth pieces they have, too, but Tee and Chase are in a different stratosphere, skill-wise.

  5. Supposedly the Bengals tried to trade for Cooper Rush in the off-season. Dehner talked about Brandon Allen possibly being a cut since he was/is 4th on the Rams’ depth chart. He’s better than Simian, and Foles and Wentz straight up blow chunks.

If Allen becomes available, I’d grab him and cut Simian. He knows the offense and he’s had some decent games as a starter. And yeah, he looks like isht on occasion, but if JB misses a bunch of games, they’re screwed anyway. Thought Jake was ready to be the number 2, and he’s decent, but Allen is more trustworthy at this stage.

I tried youtubeTV this summer and hated it. With a passion. Hated not being able to flip between channels. Hated the interface. Hated it.

That said, you don't have to get the full YouTubeTV experience to get SUnday ticket. You can get Sunday Ticket as a stand alone. Which, I did. Fingers crossed they know their shit and the streaming is seamless. I was a DirecTV sunday ticket subscriber for 25 years and I am pretty sure this is gonna be a worse experience.

Forgot about the channel switching... yes, it sucks. Not as ridiculous as when having to switch between another streaming channel over to AMZ for Thursday night football, but it's definitely not good.

  7. I have it... I was a long-time subscriber to DirecTV... mainly because of NFL Sunday Ticket. I switched over to YTTV for the same reason.

It's cheaper, but I don't like YTTV as much. The user interface IMO was much better on DirecTV... I'm sure part of that was my comfort/familiarity with it, but objectively, it's just better design. Storms affecting the DTV signal aren't an issue with DTV, but I've still had some hiccups with reception on occasion. But honestly, don't watch a lot of network TV other than sports and news, so it's not a huge deal (yet). I recall on opening weekend a few years ago, DirecTV had some kind of issue that caused everyone to miss part of a slate of games, but that's the only time I recall in the 20+ years that I had an issue.

One of the NBA playoff games I was watching this past spring lost transmission, which was concerning... just hope we don't get any repeats of that this NFL season.

  8. Even if you don’t like the guy (I don’t), it’s well worth watching, IMO.

It’s a pretty amazing story, really… a guy from a smallish high school. Goes to a power 5 program in the best college conference in the country, where there were many doubters about TX A&M’s ability to compete. Has a monster year - as a freshman, beating teams like Alabama in the process, causes football mania all across the state, helps to bring in millions and millions of dollars to the school through the football team’s success…. Huge increase in student applications, flooded $ donations, expansion of the stadium and the physical plant. Then he wins the Heisman, and gets picked in round one. Then his self-destructive tendencies end his career, and his best friend/business manager is AWOL from his life. Crazy. (There, you don’t have to watch now!)

interestingly, while there were other examples through the years, what he was doing with the autographs, etc. was another precursor to where we now are with the NIL stuff.

  9. Both guys had their moments. I like Brown as a runner and as a pass outlet, but he needs work on pass pro. That said, as a feature back at Illinois, he didn’t do a lot of that (nor do a lot of college RBs as rookies) so it’s a work in progress, as he showed on Friday. But he’s a tough kid and I think he’ll get there. I think pass pro is a lot of “want to” and I believe he has that… but along with that, he’s gotta know who to block, and he let one defender get through in the game, and maybe some others.

To his credit, Evans looked a bit better and it was nice to see him bust a long run. Seems like he’s always been trying to bounce outside so it was progress to see that. Pass catching is definitely his strength, as we’ve seen… that likely won’t change but to see him running decisively and making efforts at pass pro is encouraging.

All of that said, I still think Trayveon is the leader in the clubhouse for #2 - and while I’ve never doubted his ability as a runner (has averaged 5 YPC as a pro… admittedly small sample, with 47 carries) and with his effort in pass pro, his receiving skills weren’t very good… but he’s worked at that and last year, had a really nice catch and run that was a key play in the Tennessee game. He’d never returned kicks last year, and I thought he was solid too. And he’s made plays in coverage on STs. He’s just a good all-around football player and I think he’s ready to take on more work.

  10. Using the "old school/new school theme, I went with Boomer... and Lemar Parrish. I guess that's two old schoolers (one old, one ancient), I don't know. I'm sure a number of folks don't remember him, but that guy was electric. As good a player Riley was, and certainly longevity and stats-wise his career overshadows Parrish's, Lemar was a terrific player too.  6-time Pro Bowler, a real game-changer. Super quick and fast, got his hands on a lot of footballs, and was a fantastic punt returner. I wasn't very old and was just getting into football watching when he played, but I remember at some point he was traded... which didn't happen a lot back then. He ended up going to the Redskins and maybe somewhere after that.

Corey and Chad and Krumrie deserve to get in too, IMO, and for all he's done as "Mr. Bengal," I'd be cool with Lap making it at some point. He was a good player, too. Really versatile.

The others - all very good players, just wouldn't put them in over the others I'd select. Like any select group like this, someone always gets left out, unfortunately. That said, I'm a SF Giants fan, and there's a wall of fame with individual player plaques that are hung on the concrete around the stadium. And it's got a helluva lot of guys where I was like, WTF? Him? He was meh. So, whatever!

Anyway, I'm sure Parrish won't get in, but he was something.
