There are always certain players who always shoot up the boards in the last week before the draft, as evaluators realize they were either previously slotted too low, or valued way more by teams than draft evaluators had anticipated.

Some of those players that I predict will fit that cycle this time around include:

    - Graham Barton (C/G)

    - Darius Robinson (DE/DT)

    - Adonai Mitchell (WR)

    - Roman Wilson (WR)

    - Maason Smith (DT)

    - Patrick Paul (OT)

    * Ironically the Bengals have shown interest in all of them and could draft any of them in Rd 1 or 2.

    Thanks - good list.

From what I’ve read and heard from draft weenies, sounds like Barton is definitely going in round one. Robinson likely as well. Mitchell is definitely intriguing with his size and speed and big-play ability.

Love Roman Wilson and Mason Smith would hit a need for sure. A little wary re Patrick Paul but depending in what happens in round one, could see it on day 2.

    Ancient Bengals History...

In the 1977 Draft Paul Brown used a 4th round draft pick for Georgia ORT Mike Wilson who would have gone

in the first round if he had not already signed a contract with Toronto in the CFL.

He played there a year before coming to the Bengals to play ORT for many years overlooked because he

played next to ORG Max Montoya and he was the book end for young OLT Anthony Munoz.

He was one of my favorite Bengals ever.  Mike Wilson was overlooked and underrated.

For sure… forgot he’d played in Canada. Very good player.

Off the top of my head, Andrew Hawkins played in Canada too. Always liked him.

    Chris Henry was deceiving.

Looked slender but his legs were as strong as you'd see in a Wideout

    So gifted.

I hope his son carries his legacy on.

I remember Carson Palmer saying that Chris ran faster, the further he ran. He was able to not only maintain, but increase his speed. He was really talented.

Based upon the plethora of mock drafts, and the knowledge of the potential players spewed forth in this forum, I would recommend trading back a few spots in Round-1, still getting a coveted player plus some additional draft capital.  THEN using our draft capital to move up in Round-2 and/or get a second Round-2 pick…or Round-3 pick.  Let’s have more picks in “the sweet spot”, wherever that might be.  🦗

I like that idea and certainly it's more likely they would move back than forward... especially if it's only a few spots. Could definitely see that happening.

Rumor has it - Frank wanted to draft Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith in 21 and was overrode on both.

If true, that’s insane… I mean, I get Creed… he was a high pick, so not shocked… but Trey was a late round guy who was highly regarded coming into the draft and I was scratching my head wondering why he was sitting there for so long. A low-risk, high ceiling pick if ever there was one… and he’s been really good for KC. Given the Bengals’ seemingly forever struggles on the OL, why would someone override that?!? Nuts.

It would be glorious if the Bengals took both Mims and Maason Smith in Rds 1-2 before the Squeelers could get either of them. 😆

The Bengals had both of them in for visits and they would both fill needs (OT, DT).

maybe it’s me, but I don’t get what “more than more of them” means. Either predictive text got him, or “more than more” is some Pittsburgh slang.

    A lot depends, I suppose.

But Jonah was a consensus All-American tackle at Alabama—with a throwing QB. Pass blocking was obviously comfortable for him.

Carman was an anchor LT for Sunshine at Clemson. It’s what he played.

Whitworth was a natural tackle at LSU. The Bengals tried to jam him at guard initially. It didn’t work.

1000 Whatabouts for all kinds of players. Not sure metrics always fit

agree with most - but I don’t on Whit. He was a really good guard…. Just provided more value at T, which is what he played at LSU.

I kind of prefer Latham to Mims myself. I expect Seattle to take Troy Fautano with the 16th pick if he's still on the board. Seattle's new offensive coordinator was the OC for Washington last year. They have a big offensive line need too.

If Latham is gone (my first choice), I'd be happy with Fautanu or Barton or Fuaga... Barton has been a multl-year starter at Duke, some at center and most at LT. Smart kid, versatile. Good athlete - moves well, so he'd upgrade the OL that way. From what I've read and heard, he's very well-regarded by NFL scouts/personnel weenies for his tenacity and his technique. Supposedly arms are shorter than ideal. But personally, I wouldn't mind that pick one bit.

Bengals feel they can get a top 10 talent without moving up in the Draft

“It’s a deep draft, except maybe for a couple of positions. But I think it’s probably one of the better drafts that I’ve been around where if you’re in the top 25, you’re getting a player you would normally get in the top 10.”

Translation: We are going to get great value (something we adore) at pick 18, so why would we give up picks (something we despise) to move up a few spots? Remember, we are a contender looking to stay in contention for years to come. So we’ll just go best player available (of course within the range of positions we actually need). This is the ideal situation for me to be in. I love it here.

Can see that logic for not trading up. But trading down some spots if they have a bunch of guys in a cluster that will likely still be available for them when they pick? Could see that as a possibility.

Bengals supposedly looking for a guy to replace Stanley Morgan’s blocking but give them more upside as a receiver. Probably a guy high on their list.

Lance Z. Also mentioned possibility of Mims slipping into R2. Sure would be nice to drop down and get an extra day two pick.

A number of folks bag on Polk's timed speed but guys like Deebo (4.48) and Aiyuk (4.50) were both in that range, too.

UW had a nice crew of receivers - Odunze was the star but both Polk and McMillan will get drafted and Polk has a well-rounded game. And while I really like Roman Wilson and he's faster for sure, Polk has the edge in size and physicality... and he's not slow. Lots of good guys out there. On the pod with Nate Tice, PDJ asked about Corley from WKU... another interesting player who's great with the ball in his hands.

That actually doesn’t look too bad. I had mentioned that I heard Wilson on the radio the other day, and was impressed by his demeanor and (apparent) urge to keep improving. Not the big receiver type, but in looking at his film, he has very good speed, explodes out of routes and has the factor you want in any receiver: catches the ball. Doesn’t look wiry either—more bulk than you may think.

Might mean Patch-an-Offensive-Line for another season, but…

he was dynamic on offense for Michigan… IMO their most explosive offensive player. Consistently made plays for them and he’s tough, too. Isn’t afraid to mix it up or shy away from contact. Really like him and he can play inside or outside.

I think letting Tart leave without signing him is because they are targeting a few DT's in the draft for either the 1st or 2nd Round, and if they get one of them, then they don't add another DT.  If the first two rounds go by and they don't get a DT, I think they then hit FA one more time and try to get Tart (hopefully Cox, instead).

Tart signed with Miami. Sounds like he wasn’t a fit in Cincinnati.

A question arises:  For each player that rises up the draft boards, which player (or players) is falling?  There frequently is a player or two that unexpectedly falls in the draft.

    hard to say because teams

have intel that the public doesn’t… injuries, off-field, character, etc. The whole Tunsil thing that came to light last-minute, for example.

But sometimes it’s as simple as there are runs on a position that allows someone to slip, or someone(s) “reaches” for a guy that most pundits had positioned later, and someone else drops down.

I think of CeeDee Lamb from several years ago… seemed to be a top 10 consensus pick leading up to the draft, and he lasted until 17. No apparent reason, and as we’ve seen, he’s a helluva player.

Wonder why Latham declines to do athletic testing?

For what it's worth, Latham did not perform any athleticism testing during Wednesday's pro day. This is notable after he passed on the drills at the NFL Scouting Combine a few weeks back. That said, Latham still put on a workout for attending coaches and executives, and the Bengals seemed more interested in the other side of the ball.

No clue. He’s not injured, reportedly. Agent advice?

Bottom line, would have been nice, but ultimately I still don’t think that’ll hurt him. Saw him interviewed at the zero Day. He’s huge but looked to be in decent shape… weight loss was noticeable.

Agree. I know that Mims is the “intriguing” prospect…but I’m not feeling it for some reason.

Then again, it’s not my choice. They will get one heckuva prospect/good football player at 18 regardless of who he is. So will everyone else. That is why my standard expression is “Everyone wins on Draft Day”

maybe dumb thinking on my part, but they were also damned lucky last year with health on the OL. Given especially the fact that Trent Brown has had injury issues, it’s certainly not a given that he’ll make it through the season healthy. If that happens, I know Ford was re-signed, but I see him as more of an inside guy, and a stop gap. Which is more than I could say for Carman or Smith, other Ts on the roster.

So I’d feel better about a rookie with some seasoning to get start(s) than I would a guy with maybe more potential who isn’t ready. And both of those guys could play inside if needed. Really like Latham… he looked fat last year but reportedly he’s lost 20 pounds training leading up to the draft.

This isn't necessarily what I would do, it's just what I think the Bengals might do. I'm not ready to remove Wiggins from the list of 10 names I posted, but I might take out Newton (maybe too early for him?) and add another CB. Maybe DeJean, but I also wouldn't rule out Quinyon Mitchell. The Bengals already have another DB from Toledo they really like, and Mitchell has plenty of the traits that Anarumo seems to prioritize. Of course DeJean has excellent versatility himself, no question.

DeJean is really good - and from what I've seen on the YT tapes and the Sr Bowl, Mitchell is really impressive. DeJean is kinda Dax Hill-esque with his versatility and I think he'd make a great FS, as he finds the ball well. I think it'd be more likely that Mitchell would be the pick if both were available, and they decided to go for a CB.

Ultimately, I really think they'll go T, especially if someone like Fuaga or Latham is there. Just don't see them moving OBJ so both seem like ideal fits at RT, and even at G if needed. If they are gone and Murphy is available, could definitely see that. I like Johnny Newton a lot but I prefer Murphy.

  17. Thought this was an interesting listen. Some guys they mentioned that are well regarded from their contacts around the league … Graham Barton, for his OL versatility, and DL Brandon Dorlus, who Daniel Jeremiah sees more as a DT but can play both I side and outside.

They also talk about prospects at certain spots that are closely graded and they give their takes on guys under debate.
