CTB is the best CB on the team (that's no longer in dispute).

But I think he's also making the case for being top 10 in the league.

i dunno about all that. he is currently ranked 79th for corners, with even dj turner ranking better.

CTB got abused early in the year.

if he keeps playing like he has th elast 2-3 weeks though he will shoot up the rankings quickly.. but top 10 is bananas at this point.

  2.

    last question.

if the LEAGUE WIDE, rate of a first or second round drafted o-lineman, remaining with the team who drafted him past their rookie deal, is 30%.

why does everyone pretend everyone is both great at drafting linemen and has great olines, except the bengals.

you just read an article saying why, LEAGUE WIDE, linemen are trash and hard to find.. why do you pretend its a bengals specific issue and start blaming coaches, etc?

you JUST read it.. and the percentage of second deals for 1/2rd picks is less than 1 in 3. for the entire league.

It's not just the draft picks tho, our free agents seem to regress once they get here. And the draft picks that DO stick never seem to improve much beyond backup status. I should have added that in my original post, my bad.

We make fun of Paul Alexander but he fielded some pretty good olines, has Pollack  done that here?

    got a question for ya.

say you draft or sign a good player, right? if you put that good player, next to a bad player, do you think the performance of the good player would decrease due to being next to a worse team mate, which would reasonably make their job harder or put them in worse situations during plays?

like say you put a guy like orlando brown, next to, i dunno, one of the worst rated offensive linemen in the entire league at his position?

    thoughts?

There's no way I'm paying Tee Higgins top 10 WR money, which is between 20-30 million. Higgins could get around 20 million on the open market but the Bengals would be foolish to do that.

WR salaries are getting crazy high and it will be impossible to keep two talented guys after their rookie deals are up if they both want top dollar, which is why the Bengals drafted two WRs in the draft this year as Higgins and Boyd are both FA next offseason.

i cant fathom that anyone the bengals drafted is slotted to replace higgins snaps in this offense, or boyds honestly.

I see it as there being 3 positions I could see a trade

    RB

    TE

    DT

There are 6 teams that seem out of it and are likely traders

    Panthers

    Giants

    Bears

    Cardinals

    Broncos

    Patriots

I will go through the TE and DT options as I get time. They are not in order. RB is but Patterson and Perine should be 1A and 1B.

    RB Options

    1.      Cordarrelle Patterson-Falcons 6-2 220 32

    a.       2023-4.25M

    b.      2023: 16 snaps, 1 att, 0 yards; 2 catches-13 yards-6.5avg

    c.       2022: 382 snaps, 144 att-695 yards-4.8avg-8td; 31 catches-122 yards-5.8avg

He’s buried behind Allgeier and Robison and that’s not going to change outside of an injury. He still had something last year and I think he could be the kind of guy who could turn screens and short yardage plays into big plays. Was also a dynamic returner.

    2.      Samaje Perine-Broncos 5-10 236 28

    a.       2023-1.5M; 2024-3M

    b.      2023: 150 snaps, 24 att, 88 yards; 17 catches-184 yards-10.8avg

    c.       2022: 448 snaps, 95 att, 394 yards-2tds; 38 catches-287 yards-7.6avg-4tds

Perine isn’t getting as many snaps or touches and the Broncos are terrible. A reunion could be great. His run blocking numbers aren’t nearly as good as last year. He has a 42 grade on 17 pass blocking snaps.

    3.      Rashaad Penny-Eagles 5-11 220 27

    a.       2023-1.08M

    b.      2023: 9 snaps, 3-9-0, 1-5-5.0

    c.       2022: 170 snaps, 57-346-6.1-2, 4-16-4.0

Another guy who isn’t getting any run. Lots of injuries in his career but has flashed talent when he isn’t injured.

    4.      Zeke Elliott-Patriots 6-0 225 28

    a.       2023-1.55M

    b.      2023: 147 snaps, 49-193-3.9-1, 13-59-4.5

    c.       2022: 558 snaps, 231-876-3.8-12, 17-92-5.4

Zeke was rumored to be coming here this offseason. He isn’t doing terrible with the Patriots but we didn’t seek him out then and I doubt we do now.

    TE

    1. Zach Ertz

    2. Robert Tonyan

    3. Adam Trautman

    4. Brock Wright

    5. Moe Allie-Cox

    6. Hunter Henry

    7. Austin Hooper

    8. Daniel Bellinger

    9. CJ Uzomah

    10.  Jeremy Ruckert

    11. Ross Dwelley

    12. Mike Gesicki

    Dt.

    1. Harris

    2. Jones-Titans

    3 Jones-Bears

    4.Nunez-Roches-Giants

    5.Guy

this is kind of a list of old, overpaid or shitty players. because teams dont trade good players on reasonable contracts no matter what their situation.

Also curious about Zach Gentry, the big tight end practice squad pick up from the Stealers.

    Can he block?

yall think the coaches just have a crush on Irv smith or something? they are giving him a chance post injury and injury recovery (hanstring injury was effecting him until the bye) but if there was a clear better option for everything we need you dont think theyd have replaced him by now? he isa 1 year guy making peanuts, if hudson was clearly better at everything, he would be getting more snaps, the coaches know something they dont care for, i would assume.

its the money not the trash pick, IMO, does paying a 32 year old TE they didnt want to pay 4 months ago and giving up any random pick sound like a bengals move? thats a browns/bears type move, or a 2002 bengals move.

Do you feel the same way about Perine?

    Serious, not snarky question.

yes. perine is just a guy, lets not pretend he is more than that. he had a couple great games, but at the end of the day he is a great blocking, average, at best, running RB.

lets be real about some things.

Perine is only able to have moderate success when he is the 5th(6th?) option, the chiefs and steelers certainly knew perine existed, but Mixon left with a concussion(vs steelers), so the steelers planned for Chase, Tee, Boyd, Hurst, Mixon, Joe Running, Drew Sample, the water boy, then THEN Perine. mixon leaves with a concussion, and the perine plays (not plays for perine but the plays that perine can run, very different than Mixon) so its shit thats not on film, shit they didnt see us run with/for him ever.

Lets also be clear, that his stats in YPC are beefed up due to coming in with fresh legs in trash time OR fresh legs and a "surprise" 3rd down run on a 50/50 or passing down getting 5-6 yards on 3rd and 13 type of thing. While mixon is the one crushing through for a 1 yard TD or 3rd or 4th and 1, etc.

I would take Perine over Williams, sure, but he is a player barely worth thinking about.

we dont run Williams as much, but his blocking is solid, he had the one mental error in that one game but has been pretty solid in general.

On 10/26/2023 at 8:15 AM, PatternMaster said:

For all of the Irv Smith hate going on around here, let's give his situation with the Bengals some context and perspective. He's had 11 targets through four games and he has 6 receptions. Irv doesn't have control of what routes he gets to run or when he gets targeted for a pass, so blaming him for lack of production is a bit short-sided and stupid.

On most passing plays he's the 3rd or 4th option and for the first 4 games of the season, Burrow was throwing the ball quickly to avoid injury because he wasn't mobile enough to extend the play to get to his 3rd or 4th option. Also, Jamarr Chase is on pace to set a franchise record with targets and receptions and set a franchise record with 15 catches in a game and there are only so many targets to go around.

If anything the OC and HC need to figure out ways to get him more involved in the offense and have him run routes that will give him opportunities to make big plays because no TE will be productive with 11 targets in 4 games running short routes while being the QBs 3rd or 4th option.

he has also been hurt, but he is also not very good. I agree with the above, in fact i said it 2-3 times in previous weeks, but he isnt very good, there is a reason he is getting a 1 year sub 2 mil a year deal, if he were good, someone would be paying him 4-5 mil a year on a flyer to help out the team. does he get one more chance after the fumble? if so, then there is something wrong with Hudson that they dont like or cant trust.

It's kind of the reality of guys like Hurst, go get big money elsewhere, dont preform (not his fault really) and get cut or traded for less money than he was making.

I'm not paying him what Carolina is, but he he wants to come back here for no higher than a 6th rounder and he wants to rework his deal to stick around for maybe 3 years at a reasonable price, I'm not opposed to it.

But I'm not paying any more than that.

looks like 13 was guaranteed, so there is only 8 to play with, i doubt he conceded any money, its probably his last, he is 30, and being that he is 30, im not sure the bengals are willing to do anything over 1 years again. id love it, if it was a cut and sign cheap scenario, but the odds arent likely in our favor.

So I'm to understand our canned shit down here is worthless...acknowledged.

Interesting you mention In an Out, the most over rated fast food that isn't even fast.

I have occasion to travel to LA as my Son is there so I&O are very familiar throughout the area

and every one has a fuckin line outside the drive through of at least 1/2 hour.

And every driver has a phone in his face waiting for a mediocre burger that has to be upgraded, LOL.

    Not a fan.

in and out is an odd one, i like the burgers, i like a plain cheeseburger, also a fan of cheese pizza, like if you make good food the base model should be tasty AF too, fries are trash at INO i have it like 3 times a year... lines are wack here too

    Yes..I've bought it

    Love the stuff..

wonder how they make it for the shelf. its obviously not how its made in store, how have you seen the comparison?

i worked there as a youth, (kroger, Kings Island, Wendys, Kings Island, Wendys, Started Record label, Cincinnati Bell, T-Mobile, Sprint, Tobacco Company) all my jobs.

all the burgers that sat on the grill too long and got too dry or burnt, got put in a metal bucket, once full it went in the fridge, when you had 2 buckets, you chopped up the old burger patties with the spatulas and toss it in the bagged chili flavoring and filled it with water from the sink, stirred and put on the stove to cook and stir in the long square metal buckets up front.

so i assume they dont have piles of old burger patties at the factory, so im guessing youre probably getting a better product canned than in a wendys.

Gotta say it... Mixon isn't the answer.

Probably nothing can or will be done over the bye week

but he is virtually useless in short yardage and can't all be

    blamed on the O line.

Diving into a pile on 4th and 1... Child, please.

it literally can and it literally was blamed on the o-line, specifically by the OC, who even called out the two Olinemen who fucked it up and how they fucked it up.

    but go off i guess.

we are still just going to ignore how the pass game the first 4 games specifically hurt the run game due to everything being short and underneath, so no room to run as everyone was at the line anyway cause joe wasnt gonna hold the ball for more than 2.0 seconds..

anyone watch williams and brown run the ball? Mixon is clearly the better runner and makes more out of less everytime in comparison. both the other two are first touch and down.

this whole "if it isnt great, it sucks and needs replaced" mentality of this fanbase is exhausting. it really sucks that going into week 7 we are still working on consistency and expanding the offense, but thats where we are. the only glaring problem is Irv Smith, and he started with the trash offense, then got hurt, and has been bad for 2 weeks, bot frankly the offense has changed each week so much with joes health, he hasnt had a fair shake.

but this is the nfl, and not everyone gets  fair shake. so im down for a change, but im guessing he gets one more week like others said. but he is bad enough to risk, in the "cant be worse" thought process

    Volson fucking sucks.

this resume isnt exactly star studded, the win over the lions is the most impressive, and it took overtime.

it has been confirmed that witherspoon does NOT travel with WR's so frankly we can make him literally NEVER cover Chase if we want.

that would be wild and silly but its something we can control it seems.

about to watch thier games in condensed for to see how they are winning and watch these so called killer corners and such....
