He's talking about organizations like the Cardinals that are a complete dumpster fire, which makes complete sense. Now that players like Caleb can get paid millions from NIL deals they are getting less pressure from family members, like Caleb's dad, to go pro. In past years guys might have been heavily pressured by "loved ones" to go make some money when they could have benefited from another year or two of college sports.

Totally agree.  Useless Speculation but... I wonder if Joe is waiting for Tee to sign based on earlier statement alluding to wanting to make sure everyone was taken care of.  Could Tee be the hold up?

Cut to the chase... sign 'em both... and quit screwing around.

Hopefully, that is the case and Tee is signed sooner than later, but I can see a world in which he might get franchised if they can't get a deal done during the season.

They have said he needed to upgrade his technique, which makes sense for a rookie.  Guy probably got by on superior athleticism in college, but that rarely works in the NFL.  Give him time to learn.  Wasn’t drafted to step in day 1.

Thinking you can judge a guy’s heart from the living room after watching a few plays is silly.

Hey BJ played high school football so he knows when a guy's got that fire or not....

I think it's the chant that goes with it that really takes it from regular trashy to Red Lobster dumpster in July

The lack of awareness of the overall cringyness of it is astounding...they legit think they are cool doing that bs. The war cry or whatever that is, is just shameful. For anyone wondering how some Native Americans feel about this, https://www.tampabay.com/sports/bucs/2021/02/02/native-american-group-plans-super-bowl-protest-of-kansas-city-chiefs/

The team said in a statement at the time that although they had discouraged fans from wearing headdresses for several years, the organization decided after discussions with Native American leaders to ban them altogether.

The statement said face painting would still be allowed for all fans but any face paint that is “styled in a way that references or appropriates American Indian cultures and traditions” is prohibited. The team also said it was working on a “thorough review process” of the Arrowhead Chop.😂

I'm sure that review was very thorough, the white guilt wasn't that strong...lol

It gets a little boring in KC, you have to spice it up somehow

Where are you getting that about Brown? He had lots of good reasons to play here but I hadn't seen that mentioned at all, let alone as a deciding factor.

For me it's not the legal stuff so much as that he was objectively well below average at his position last year. That's typically not the case for a TC on a team loaded with outstanding vets.

Hey, maybe it motivates him to start blocking for his other team captain.

He said it on this podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/bengals-ot-orlando-brown-jr-on-cincinnatis-offensive/id1585204338?i=1000625995765

He and Mixon were teammates in college, remained friends, and openly talked about playing together for years. Same reason why Cody Ford signed here, these guys are like family as they grew up together in college.

It is already weeks too late to rush the deal. Everything has moved at a snail's pace. If they aren't very close to an agreement by this point, then maybe it doesn't get done until after the season. Doubt talks will continue past Sunday's game. Hopefully a contract is signed before Sunday, maybe today or tomorrow.

Players negotiate on extensions during the season all the time, I know the Bengals historically don't but if Burrow wanted to do so... I'm sure they would.

Andrew Brandt is a smart guy with plenty of connections, but he's not speaking with any inside information. He's just speculating about what he would do if he was Burrow's agent, which is common sense. The shorter amount of years on the deal the sooner you can re-up for more money, nothing revolutionary or complex about that.

As of now Burrow is required to do a mandatory press conference tomorrow now that it's game week. Not sure if he can get out of it if he shows up on the injury report though. He has not done any media whatsoever since the first day of training camp, the day before he injured his calf. I would guess that there will be a big push to get the contract settled before he has to talk before the press while being asked  uncomfortable questions.

I don't think either side is worried about being asked uncomfortable questions enough to rush this deal, which will be one of the biggest if not the biggest in NFL history. The Cincy media is not going to do anything to get on Burrow's bad side, especially push him on something like his contract if he makes it clear he doesn't want to talk about it.

The deal will get done when it gets done, no amount of pressure from the Cincy media is going to affect the timing of this deal.

He'd been good up until last year when he was near bottom of the league in YPC, then his name started popping up with "guns" and "police" over the offseason so.. IDK.  Maybe he bounces back this year but NFL RBs tend to burn out pretty hard.  Apparently naming key players with bad PR as captains is just what teams do these days though.

The players are the ones that name the captains, not the front office or coaches. Players care little about bad PR, they have genuine relationships that go further than a media narrative or bs lawsuits. Mixon is well respected by guys not only on our team but also by other guys around the league, he's a reason why Orlando Brown Jr, a former college teammate, chose to come to Cincy.

From the outside looking in it might seem strange, but we all have friends that others might not like or we might be that friend....either way it's not like Mixon hasn't been a captain for years and a bs lawsuit that was dismissed and his crazy brother in law isn't going to change that.

Don't be, they've been circling the wagons and trying to fluff Smiley Joe ever since he started fucking up. Not sure what sort of leadership he's providing exactly but I guess they genuinely like the guy.

I doubt the charity will extend to letting him plod along for another 4 ypc season if someone else is outperforming him.

We all know the Redeemer loves bad boys, it's his weakness...especially if they drive a Chevy Lumina.

Mixon is one of the longest tenured players on the roster, only behind Tyler Boyd, so he clearly has big fans in the front office.  Mixon is a guy that the players respect, clearly, and he's been productive while being a good locker room guy.

I saw plenty of it from Raymond Johnson III and even Gunter in the last game to keep his job. But the former got cut and is now on the Lions practice squad and the latter got demoted to our PS, so maybe "fire" isn't what they're looking for. Fitting a measurable checklist is.

And not to say that's wrong. They seem to believe that DEs need to be 6'5, 275, and a certain build with certain attributes for Lou's defense. Hard to argue with the results as well.

But so far Murphy seems too measured for my taste. I hope an opponent punches him or something, to ignite something and see what kind of fight he has in him.

lol... are u serious....is it the glasses...

The athletic skills are undeniable and there. But I have yet to see the reckless abandon, or fire in his eyes that's needed. He needs to find it fast.

    * I would activate Gunter off the PS for week 1 just in case.

That's hard to see from the couch, my guy...I think the coaches have seen it or they won't have drafted him in the first round.

He did have a productive preseason, he made plays and showed he can excel at this level.

"How different the pass rushing is," Murphy said about the biggest change. "Things are a little bit different. Pass rushing in college is a little bit different than pass rushing in the NFL so it's just adapting to that honestly because I know everyone knows I know I got all the tools to be a great pass rusher it's just a matter of honing everything and putting everything together and it's going to click, and it's going to show up very, very soon."

He seems like a very thoughtful guy who thinks before he acts, which could explain his supposed slow start. But now, he's had an opportunity to learn without the pressure to produce I think he's ready to step it up to another level. Getting this opportunity to gain valuable experience early in his career is a blessing, in the worst-case scenario he can completely fall on his face, but he will be able to take a step back and figure it out when Ossai comes back.

Ultimately, this is the best thing to happen to Myles, he's going to step up and make some big plays.
