I thought one of the knocks on him was his blocking?  Not a good look for blitz pickup for a 3rd down RB.  Didn't a recent training camp report seemed to confirm that in RB blocking drills?

That's the thing, I couldn't find any reliable source that said but it's being parroted by clueless hacks that call themselves journalists. I'm sure every back has struggled at some point during camp, I listen to the Locked on Bengals podcast because it's the best way to get daily Bengals news from an actual journalist, if you want to call Jimmy Rapien that. On one of their podcast, they mentioned that Brown struggled in pass pro one day, but I don't see the cut Chase Brown talk...it just seems like the moment Brown was drafted some people decided that Evans was immediately going to be cut and Brown was going to be Mixon's backup.

Evans is the biggest of the backup RBs and has the best shot of being the best blocking back on the roster from a purely physical standpoint. I'm sure there is some room for improvement but he's not a lost cause.

I'd say there's a weird bias from the coaches too. He barely gets on the field, but when he does he's highly productive. He's had 18 catches his entire career here. To the tune of 189 yards and 3 touchdowns! He had exactly zero rushing attempts last year, but averaged 4.5 yards a tote on 17 carries his first year. I've posted (and wondered) before about why this guy hasn't been involved more. People have said he was in the doghouse with someone in the Bengal hierarchy, but I've never heard anything more specific.

He had some maturity issues in college but at 25 years old I don't think that is an issue. I think he might have made a mistake or two last year but nothing crazy enough to be in the doghouse.

He's definitely talented but they seem to not want to play him for whatever reason but keep him around...it's weird. Maybe they don't like his haircut...lol

Paul Brown made his hay as the Cleveland coach.

Right, but he didn't forget everything about coaching once he left Cleveland. He was still a great coach here in Cincinnati, he just had less talented players initially.

If you gave him an all time team to coach instead of an expansion team full of rookies and cast offs then that's a different conversation.

  4. There seems to be this weird bias against Chris Evans from some media and fans, I see many of the 53-man projections with him not on it but random guys like Tanner Hudson or Jaxson Kirkland or Jalen Davis.

Evans could easily be the top backup behind Mixon as Williams is hurt and Brown is a rookie. Evans has proven he can make plays in the NFL as he's the only RB on the roster besides Mixon to score a TD in the NFL.

I just don't understand why almost every roster projection has him getting cut when there's a clear path to him being the #2 back and getting significant snaps this year. I expect him to get the start tonight and show what he can do behind the starting offensive line.

  5. Anything other than PB is straight blasphemy and is an indictment of the football IQ of the posters on this board. Brown is one the best football coaches ever, he was so good they named a team after him...what other coach can say that? He could adjust to today's game as he was already years ahead of his peers.

Sam Wyche over Paul Brown...seriously...in what world was Sam Wyche better than Paul Brown. He was a good coach but nowhere near Paul Brown. And Zac Taylor...well, he's good but having Burrow hides many of his flaws....you see what he did when he had Andy Dalton, a guy that Marvin Lewis went to the playoffs with multiple times.

^ With a potential Trayveon injury, that Mixon restructuring looks even better.

The silver lining is it might allow Chase Brown to emerge sooner, who I think will be the best of them all.

I think Chris Evans will benefit the most, many had him as getting cut this offseason so maybe he will have more opportunity to prove he belongs on the team.

He should let his midget QB play a down in the NFL first, before comparing him in any way to the best QB in the league.

Bryce's problem is his coaches can't add 6 inch heels to his cleats, so he can see over his OL. Because right now he looks like a coach's son that snuck on the field.

He did just fine in college with the same size guys and was chosen #1 overall....I think he will be ok.

A player complementing a teammate isn't embarrassing himself, it's called being a good teammate.

Multiple origin theories of the nickname:

"In a segment with WGFX-FM 104.5 (The Zone) in Nashville on Tuesday, long-time Houston Chronicle reporter John McClain noted that original plans included a different nickname for the team and a different layout for the stadium on the east bank of the Cumberland River."

“The Titans were going to be the ‘Pioneers,’” McClain, who closely covered the franchise’s transition from Houston, said. “Then it got out. I think somebody in Memphis found out about it. So, [franchise founder] Bud Adams changed everything and went to Titans.”

    ---------------

"The Oilers played one season in Memphis and one in Nashville at Vanderbilt University’s football stadium before their home stadium was completed prior to the 1999 season. The team was then rechristened the Tennessee Titans, a name derived from Nashville’s sobriquet of “the Athens of the South.”

It does have its own Parthenon

The Partheneon is pretty cool, I went to college in Nashville and used to go there often

If he wasn't a known sex offender and they didn't give up 2 years of top draft picks on top of $250m guaranteed I would agree it makes good sense for them. A move that desperate though? I think it was a hail Mary to try and stay relevant in the division.  Hell I'd have to think hard about giving up all that for Burrow. Sure he's HoF material but if something goes sideways we'd be screwed for the next several years. No way Watson will live up to that deal.

Is he really a sex offender? He wasn't charged with anything criminal and the women that said he harassed them came back again... how does that happen? If you are so offended and felt so bad, why come back for more? He paid for happy endings, women complied and came back again and again. It could be seen as morally wrong, but he's not a sex offender by the definition of the law as the local law enforcement investigated and didn't pursue any criminal charges. Hopefully, he talked about his need for risky sexual encounters with a licensed professional, but as of yet I wouldn't call him a sex offender, but he's knocking on the door and peaking in the sex offender room.

The Browns were extremely desperate,  prior to Watson they had 32 starting QBs in 22 years and they were all mediocre at best. They were so desperate they talked themselves into believing Baker Mayfield(who had his own sexual misconduct allegations) was the guy who could get them over the hump and now he's on his 3rd team since he left in 2022. Watson is the best QB the Browns have had since Otto Graham and in today's NFL if you don't have an elite QB you have no shot of winning so I can understand why they did what they did and they would have done it regardless of if Burrow is in the division or not.

I think the completely insane trade for Watson was largely driven by having Burrow in their division & trying to keep pace. I suspect Pickett will be on a very short leash in Pittsburgh for the same reason.

This DE is just a good move overall though, I agree it had very little to do with the question marks at RT.

1-5 vs the Browns though, man that's ugly.  Bad matchups OL vs DL I guess? Pretty crazy.

It's definitely a good move for the Browns as I think they have one of the most complete rosters in the NFL.

As for the Watson trade, I think it was just ownership wanting to have guy they can say is a legit franchise QB. Think about all the QBs the latest iteration the Browns have trotted out there...it's insane. Including Watson the Browns have had 33 starting QBs since 2000...they wanted to slow down their QB body count.

I know Watson was supposed to be a Falcon until the Browns made that crazy offer that pissed off the rest of the NFL. I think Cleveland knew that Baker wasn't the guy and they had a great opportunity to get an elite QB so they went all in...whether or not Burrow was a Bengal didn't really matter.

I think most teams try to get as much talent that fits their coaching staff scheme and plans as possible...

***** This is exactly why they did it.  Trying to exploit what they perceive as a Bengal weakness.

Yes.  Beating the top team in the division twice will go a long way to getting them in the playoffs and keeping us out.

If the Bengals do not find a solution to the question mark at ORT we currently have.

Getting someone in the backfield that can block and keep Joe Burrow from getting cheap shotted would help

a lot, too, and that leaves out Joe Sixgun.

And this guy will help win a few more of their games too.

Lol...Burrow is 1-5 vs the Browns....they don't need ZDarius Smith's help to beat the Bengals. Suggesting a team is trading for a specific player to go against a specific team is laughable especially when they have beat that team more than any team in the division.

Maybe the Browns got Smith because they lost Clowney, weren't able to address it in the draft, and needed a vet pass rusher on the roster to compliment Garrett...or the Browns front office and coaching staff has a daily meeting on how to bet the Bengals and this is phase 1 of their plan.

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon pleaded not guilty Wednesday when he appeared in court on a charge from an incident in January.

Wednesday’s hearing was the first since a misdemeanor charge of aggravated menacing and not blocking worth a shit was refiled against Mixon on April 7.

After he pleaded not guilty to the charge, the judge set Mixon’s bond at $10,000.

The charge stems from a claim that the Bengals running back pointed a gun at someone on Jan. 21 in the 300 block of Walnut Street in downtown Cincinnati, according to the initial complaint.

Mixon is accused of telling the victim, “You should be popped in the face. I should shoot you. The police can’t get me,” court records detailed.

The victim told officers the threat was a result of “road rage,” the incident report reads.

These charges about what he said are going to be hard to prove in court without any proof or evidence. Clearly, they have some evidence because they charged him. Between this and the shooting at his house it's a tough offseason for Joe. I wonder if the local media will give him shit like they did their favorite whipping boy, Jackson Carman,  after the report about sexual assault that happened in college came out last offseason.
