Bengals supposedly looking for a guy to replace Stanley Morgan’s blocking but give them more upside as a receiver. Probably a guy high on their list.
Lance Z. Also mentioned possibility of Mims slipping into R2. Sure would be nice to drop down and get an extra day two pick.

Another guy to watch R2 now it seems. Michigan guys should be flying off the board on Friday. -

Thought this was a really good listen.
Nate Tice is a sharp guy and he makes some interesting points about priorities and good guys for the Bengals.
Got to listen to this today. 78% of Wilson’s catches went for first downs. Would be a nice replacement for Tyler but Paul keeps harping on the inside/outside versatility and I’m not sure Roman is big enough to not get pressed into the benches. I imagine he would need to be lined up at Z if he played outside which would negate Jamarr and a free release like they want to do when he’s in the slot.Jermaine Burton shout out in this one for later round guy.

Rankins is more known for his gap penetration than his run stopping, he's the Larry Ogunjobi type we've been missing. They even said Larry's name in the press conference.
BJ Hill and Sheldon Rankins are both making $10M+ to play defensive tackle for this team. They aren’t splitting those snaps 50/50. They are going to be on the field at the same time the majority of the snaps.- 2

I mean Teair Tart and Sheldon Rankins are the same size. Rankins has plenty of A gap experience. I’m pretty sure Rankins was signed to take the majority of the snaps in the A gap for the team this year.

They tried to resign Reader AND bring in Rankins. So I'm not sure I agree.
Did they? Because judging from the guy who runs DJ’s charity events - the offer was “disrespectful” and they could have very easily allocated the Rankins money to bringing DJ back instead. They also let Tart leave without an offer. Maybe they have a plan - but as of right now I can’t see it being anything that involves an A gap player outside of Murphy and Murphy being there is dicey at best.I think there’s a chance they could pursue a guy who gets dropped prior to training camp - but would be shocked if two more bodies aren’t added to the room in the draft. It reeks of them either adjusting scheme and running a wider alignment to counter browns wide zone/Lamar or Rankins running the A gap.

I like Murphy, Jenkins and to an extent Hall but they all seem to be 3techs
We already have BJ Hill and Sheldon Rankins in those roles.
Just curious why the gloating over more of the same.
BJ Hill and Sheldon Rankins are starting and taking a majority of the snaps this year - so they clearly don’t care about the “roles”. They need more talented bodies and there aren’t any draft able A gap players out there besides Murphy and Sweat and I’d bet my bottom dollar Sweat isn’t even in the conversation until day 3 at this point. If they are serious about A gap alignment then it has to be Byron Murphy. If not - they just need to get more able bodies to rotate. They don’t have to line anyone up in the A gap if they don’t want to. They could run a wide alignment with two guys in the 2 alignment and two guys in the 5 alignment and give up the middle of the field but take away the edges and have the linebackers aligned in the A gap.

I’d love a double up of Jenkins and Hall Jr. on day two. Completely kick Zach Carter out of the rotation.

Decent company. Team captain. NFL pedigree.

And my favorite R2 target Troy Franklin.

Estime. Comp pick?

I think Murphy would be the most impactful guy they could get in terms of 2024. But I’m hoping it’s Fuaga/Murphy/Mims or a trade down to get another pick in the top 100.

Byron Murphy lined up in the A gap almost as often as Sweat last year. Kris Jenkins has a better run stop percentage than Sweat. Both much cleaner prospects and I imagine there’s a much higher probability one of those guys will be on the team than Sweat next year.

Day two receiver is my hope if they don’t end up with Bowers R1. My Ladd dreams are slowly dying but hoping a Troy Franklin might be there.

Kris Jenkins better run stop rate than Sweat. I’d expect him to be in the discussion in round 2.

I would assume the Bills trading Diggs to another AFC contender probably tells you that they don’t think he has it anymore. $31M in dead cap and didn’t have over 100 yards in the final 13 games of the year.

Bowers is a stud. Jermaine Burton might also be one as well and could be had in the third if they’re willing to risk the potential attitude issues.

DJ can say what he wants but the Bengals weren’t giving him $9M guaranteed so it wouldn’t have mattered whether they started talking week 1 or in FA.

I think that’s a fair assumption but I think the strategy is going to shift. Ball security is going to always be #1 and maybe that gives Tray the edge he needs, but speed is going to be second. If you’ve got two guys back there with different athletic profiles, the less athletic one is going to have the ball kicked to him predominantly. I’ve never seen much from Tray to indicate there are some burners in there like Chase displayed last year.

Jay Morrison talked to Simmons about this on the recent growler podcast. Sounds like they’re going to need to have two returners back on kickoffs. Imagine Chase Brown might possibly be the other guy. Places some importance on returner in whatever WR/RB they draft this year.
-
Unless Joe goes on IR during the season - there is 0% chance they trade him after April 26th.

This offseason they have demonstrated they really don’t care about trying to impose their will like the other north teams. Got smaller at tailback, aren’t willing to trade Tee, signed a tight end that lines up almost exclusively in the slot, signed a right tackle who excels at pass blocking, lost their best run defender, spent money on a split safety who doesn’t tackle well. Add it up and tell me if they’re gunning for the Ravens or the Chiefs.
Im not saying I don’t want them to get pieces to match up better. I hate losing to those three teams and not even being competitive in half of them. But at the end of the day - they play well against teams outside of the AFCN, so its not like it isn’t working.

2024 NFL Mock Draft

Yeah - something I thought that was interesting was they mentioned Corley’s average air yard per reception was something like 3.6 yards and the Bengals were the only AFCN team not at his pro day. Imagine they are looking for more inside out versatility than what Corley brings.
