A flub-up on a night out on the town does not discount what he did on the field at Texas. There may be better “value” picks at NT later on, but for a true description of what the Bengals need as a pure NT, he is it.

It’s not so much what he did that’s causing the concern, it’s when he did it. Piss poor judgement is not the endearing quality NFL teams are looking for.

It still seems like a poor use of resources to take a backup 3T at 18. I don't have anything against Murphy or Newton as prospects but they would be playing behind Hill and probably Rankins in 2024 and 2025. That's half their rookie contract. Certainly we can rotate them and taking one of them would let us move on from Hill after 2024. But it's still a luxury pick when we don't have a starting NT and RT would be a gaping wound if Trent Brown gets injured, as he does most years.

You’re worrying about something that hasn’t even happened yet. Why?

  3. Bengals feel they can get a top 10 talent without moving up in the Draft

“It’s a deep draft, except maybe for a couple of positions. But I think it’s probably one of the better drafts that I’ve been around where if you’re in the top 25, you’re getting a player you would normally get in the top 10.”

Translation: We are going to get great value (something we adore) at pick 18, so why would we give up picks (something we despise) to move up a few spots? Remember, we are a contender looking to stay in contention for years to come. So we’ll just go best player available (of course within the range of positions we actually need). This is the ideal situation for me to be in. I love it here.

  4. I don’t know, I think those quick feet and that nasty demeanor he plays with will translate well at the next level. I’d have no problem whatsoever sticking him at RT, especially since he doesn’t have to be thrown to the fire right off the bat with Brown here. If he can beat out Volson at LG in the meantime…perfect.
