I wouldn't even trade him to Baltimore for their 1st Rd pick. As it's never a good idea to make a division rival better.
The only way I would even consider trading him to the Ravens would be for like 3 first Rd picks. Something that might cripple their future regardless of how good he was.
I would tell them "all your picks in 2024 and 2025", otherwise f*ck off.

I don't know why they even called, they should know the Bengals arent going to trade in division.
They had phoned earlier and asked "is your refigerator running"

The Bengals absolutely will not reach to fill a need. That is guaranteed.Agreed. That is the only guarantee of the drfat. Oh wait, other than we will not select at QB anywhere near the top....2 guarantees. Amongst the gaurantees are.....nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition...

I dunno. There isn’t much history of a QB literally being given away or cut by 2 decent organizations then having a Renaissance and becoming good. Wilson is just weird and he has never been a great QB.
Fields has been terrible in Chicago. Sure, you can blame the organization to some extent but he really likes throwing the ball to the wrong colored jersey. If you can’t do it by year 3 you simply can’t do it.
I don’t see how taking on 2 marginal and cheap QBs can be a great move. You are basically giving up on yet another season.
Maybe I should have said a good move for us? LOL.
I see these as good moves in the sense that they quickly recognized Pickett Mittens was not going to cut it so these moves are transitioanl to keep them 'competitive' or seen as such. Wilson is a head case but so was Jen and too many other Stealers to count. Fields is a cheap back-up shot in the dark type at this point.
The problem for almost all teams in the AFC is theysee thier QB's compared to Mahomes, Burrow, Allen and it is bad enough with one of those types in the conference let alone 3.

I would not be surprised if we pick Troy Fautanu at 18. He can play all 5 spots on the OL and could probably start at RT.

I would suspect they would be offerring Becton a marginal/reasonable base salasry with bonuses available for snap counts or games started. He is , at this point, a backup and even if we sign him, there is a fiar chance that a RT we drafted in iether R1 or R2 could outplay him.
Still early in the post season here, what date did we pick up Brown last year?

And fields is a free agent next year so they'll have to pay him or he's gone
Excellent point. I did not know that. I guess they will have a QB competition and see which one the want to roll with for the next few years.

Hate the Stealers as much as anyone but I have to say these were 2 good moves. Wilson is probably done but they are paying him nothing and as much as he is a locker room shithead, the Stoolers seem to actually like that.
Fields is better than Pickett and I will give the Stoolers credit for realizing what most knew, Pickett was never going to develop. So they cut thier losses.
neither of these guys or Burrow or Lamar obviously but they will keep the Stoolers in the mix.

The NFL has the "funding rule" which requires guaranteed future payments to be put in escrow. It's an obsolete relic from the days when teams folded with players not getting paid. But it hasn't been needed since the depression.
Florio checked on it last year to see how much the Browns had put in escrow for Watson. It turned out the answer was zero. It's a league rule, not in the CBA but the owners like having it around so some of them can plead cash flow problems. But it's no longer necessary and doesn't seem to be enforced anyway.
Zero for the idiot Watson? wow, did not know that. I suppose one could argue each contract is essentially secured by the NFL so no need for escrow.
Appreciate your insight on this.

Need to also add college carries, those vary greatly by player as well.

From what I've seen there is a grand total of four guys in the draft who could remotely be considered a NT:
Sweat (Texas) Rd 2-3
McKinley (Miss St) Rd 3-4
Jefferson (LSU) Rd 5-6
Anderson (FAU) Rd 6-FA
Am I missing anyone?
Justin Rogers (Auburn) 6-3 346 lbs
Evan Anderson (FAU) - 6-3 356 lbs

If they franchise him again next year I think I’ll rip my hair out. If you are going to guarantee two years in full - why not do it now and get an extra two years of control.
I think it’s certainly possible. But it will be frustrating and probably a signal that things are changing as much as we would hope or they’re cash poor.
They are not cash poor. The league allows each team to have a line of credit up to 50% of the franchise value; now some owners may be over leveraged in other ways and can't access this but the Brown family would have little to no debt. Having said that - the USE of a line of credit today, to be repaid in the future has not really been part of thier make-up. But we have now given several contracts though with large guarantees (and I believe these amounts have to be put in escrow) which no doubt has moved us into the line of credit mode. Up front money and guarantees are now 'normal' practice for contracts so we have no choice but to adjust.
For Tee, he may want say $50M up front/guaranteed which means $50M out the door today compared to say $45M - $50M spread out over the next two years if they double tag him. It is a big difference.

Vikings add another first rounder. Trying to collect picks to move up to get a QB I think.
This is an interesting trade since it even involves a 2025 pick:
Per multiple reports, Minnesota has acquired the No. 23 overall pick and No. 232 in the seventh round. In exchange, Houston has received No. 42 in the second round, No. 188 in the sixth round, and a second-round pick in 2025.
That gives the Vikings two first-round selections in this year’s draft, as they also have their original No. 11 overall pick after finishing the season 7-10.
The pick at No. 23 is originally from the Browns, who sent the selection to the Texans as part of the deal for quarterback Deshaun Watson.
By making this trade in mid-March, the Vikings have some options before the draft. They could potentially package No. 11 and No. 23 to move up into the top 10 for a quarterback. Or if that’s not enough, they could package No. 11 and No. 23 with a player — perhaps receiver Justin Jefferson, who is seeking a new contract — to move up for the quarterback they want.

Well well, for a 7th round pick, #224 is pretty good all things considered...it's the FOURTH pick of the 7th round...I previously assumed it was Houston's pick at #247.
I guess then when it was initially a conditional 7th rounder it was conditional on Mixon signing an extension?

He is an unrestricted free agent who got the non-exclusive tag. The Bengals could have prevented him from negotiating with other teams via the exclusive franchise tag but it costs more. It's only rarely used, I think the last time was Drew Brees.
Hmm..I did not know there were two different kind of franchise tags.
-
Tee is not a FA, he has been designated with the tag.
