20 Questions for President Bush About Iraq
By Arrianna Huffington
3/27/06

As part of his latest PR push on Iraq, President Bush has been giving another round of speeches and -- wonder of wonders -- fielding questions from audience members and reporters alike. He even took a question from Helen Thomas for the first time in over three years -- a decision he later said he "semi-regretted."

Well, as long as he's in a question-answering state of mind (or is it a poll-driven state of desperation?), I thought I'd offer up a few questions of my own about Iraq for the president.

1.) Last week, you insisted: "I didn't want war. To assume I wanted war is just flat wrong... it's simply not true." Yet source after source after source suggests otherwise, including your former Treasury Secretary, Paul O'Neil, who has said that invading Iraq was a goal set out at your first National Security Council meeting, just ten days after your inauguration: "It was all about finding a way to do it. That was the tone of it. The president saying 'Go find me a way to do this.'" Mr. President, is Paul O'Neil lying?

2.) Despite the fact that dozens of Iraqis a day are dying in sectarian violence, you continue to insist that Iraq is not in a civil war. How many dead Iraqis per day would it take before you'd be willing to concede that civil war has broken out?

3.) Speaking of civil war, your Iraq-is-not-a-civil-war assessment was directly contradicted by former prime minister Ayad Allawi, a man whose credibility you considered unimpeachable in 2004, saying: "He's a brave, brave man... You can't change the dynamics on the ground if you've criticized the brave leader of Iraq." Has your opinion of him changed now that he's no longer saying what you want to hear?

4.) Allawi has said: "We are losing each day, as an average, 50 to 60 people through the country, if not more. If this is not civil war, then God knows what civil war is." Do you think this is something you might discuss with God next time you speak?

5.) You have steadfastly supported Secretary Rumsfeld, recently claiming: "He's done a fine job." Just how bad would things have to get before you'd be willing to downgrade that to "a so-so job"? What, in your eyes, would you consider "a really crummy job"?

6.) You have indicated that you now believe that there will be American troops in Iraq until at least 2009, saying the decision about withdrawing all U.S. forces will be made by "future presidents and future governments of Iraq." Given that, do you now feel that your May 2003 Mission Accomplished moment, during which you claimed "major combat operations in Iraq have ended," was a tad premature?

7.) Was the flight suit you wore intentionally one size too small?

8.) Yes or no, are we building permanent military bases in Iraq? If yes, how many?

9.) Total U.S. expenditures on the Iraq war have now been pegged at $320 billion. Assuming the war had never happened, what would we have done with that money?

10.) No one died as a result of Watergate, but thousands have died to rid the world of an imminent threat that wasn't. Will history declare your administration's actions in the lead-up to the war in Iraq a greater scandal than Watergate?

11.) You and several members of your administration have repeatedly said members of Congress saw "the same intelligence" as you did before the invasion. But in the Sept. 21, 2001 PDB, you were told that there was no evidence linking Saddam Hussein to the September 11th attacks. And yet you never gave this information to Congress. Do you still believe they saw "the same intelligence" you did?

12.) In your opinion (as opposed to Halliburton's), has there been war profiteering in the Iraq war? Do you know how many billions have gone unaccounted for? Are you even curious?

13.) Do you agree with Harry Truman that war profiteering is treason?

14.) You have said America has no choice but to remain in Iraq to prevent Al Qaeda from using the country as a terrorist base. Would you say Al Qaeda's presence in Iraq has increased or decreased since we invaded?

15.) You claimed, in September 2002, that "you can't distinguish between Al Qaeda and Saddam when you talk about the war on terror." Did you really mean this?

16.) Can you not differentiate between a group of evil ultraradical Islamic fundamentalists who carried out the September 11 attacks and an evil secular nationalist who, despite the frantic efforts of your administration, has in no way been directly linked to 9/11?

17.) Given that you claim intelligence about Iraq was not manipulated, was intelligence that suggested Iraq didn't have WMD as welcome as intelligence that suggested it did? Could an intelligence official who brought you the former expect to advance as quickly as one who brought you the latter?

18.) You've said it is "preposterous" to claim that the diversion of troops and equipment to Iraq had anything to do with the government's delayed response to Hurricane Katrina, but a secret Pentagon report and the head of the National Guard say otherwise. Were people suffering and dying in Louisiana and Mississippi because so many of our National Guard members and so many billions of tax-payer dollars were diverted to Iraq?

19.) Given that you've made the Iraq war a top priority of your administration, have you ever discussed military service with your daughters? How would you feel if they enlisted ?

20.) More than 2,300 American soldiers have been killed and over 17,000 wounded since the Iraq war began. Care to predict what these numbers will be at the end of the "long, hard slog"?

20 More Questions for President Bush
Arrianna Huffington
3/28/06

Yesterday, hoping to take advantage of George Bush's current question-answering state of mind, I put forth 20 questions about Iraq for him. I haven't heard back. But that's okay, I actually have some more questions for him. Because while Iraq is clearly the defining issue of his presidency, it is far from the only debacle he's overseen.

Here then, with a nod to Paul Harvey, are the... rest of the questions:

1.) Is the limit of your imagination replacing Andy Card with Josh Bolten?

2.) Why, during your 2004 campaign did you assure voters, "any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires... a court order" when you had been specifically authorizing wiretapping without court orders for nearly two years?

3.) Why was your attorney general unable to provide a response beyond "Um, none come to mind, Senator" to back up your 2006 State of the Union claim regarding warrantless wiretaps that "previous presidents have used the same constitutional authority I have and federal courts have approved the use of that authority"?

4.) The GOP crowd that was going to "restore honor and integrity" to Washington has instead given us Abramoff, DeLay, Libby, Frist, Santorum, Safavian, and Claude Allen. If this is what integrity looks like, can you blame those who'd like to bring back Oval Office blow jobs?

5.) Speaking of Claude Allen, your top domestic policy advisor, he abruptly resigned on Feb. 9 and was arrested a month later over a petty shoplifting scam (despite being in the highest White House pay bracket). In 2003 you nominated him as a judge to the 4th Circuit US Court of Appeals - a nomination that the Democrats scuttled. Knowing what you know now, was this the right decision?

6.) In 2003, when you said "I want to know the truth" about who leaked Valerie Plame's identity, did you ask your staff what they knew? If you didn't ask them, why not?

7.) Do you consider Dick Cheney to be a successful vice president? Why do you think so few Americans approve of the job he's doing?

8.) Why did it take less than two weeks after the unveiling of Janet Jackson's right boob at the Super Bowl before the GOP Congress held hearings on the matter, but 14 months before you caved to public pressure and allowed the 9/11 Commission to be formed? Had the 9/11 widows not pressured you to form the commission, would you ever have done it?

9.) Why wasn't your testimony to the 9/11 commission under oath? Why did you insist on having Dick Cheney in the room with you?

10.) With the domestic war on terror underfunded and understaffed, do you consider it a smart allocation of resources to have the FBI form a squad exclusively devoted to cracking down on sexually explicit material involving consenting adults?

11.) After Katrina, you said "I take responsibility" for the failure of the government. Is this the only disaster during your five years in office for which you take responsibility?

12.) In its post-Katrina rebuilding efforts, your administration, according to the Wall Street Journal, "is importing many of the contract practices blamed for spending abuses in Iraq," including contracts awarded without competitive bidding and cost-plus provisions "that guarantee contractors a certain profit regardless of how much they spend." So what's the thinking on this one, Mr. President -- 'If at first you don't succeed...'?

13.) You came into office pledging to be "a uniter, not a divider." What grade would you give yourself on that?

14.) Given your public pronouncements about your extensive Bible reading, what are your thoughts on Jesus' teachings about the poor?

15.) Why did Vice President Cheney fight tooth and nail to keep the records of his energy task force secret? What is he hiding?

16.) Given that we now know the heads of oil companies attended the vice president's energy task force meetings, and given that they denied it when they appeared before Congress, would you say they lied to Congress? Is this why Senator Ted Stevens was so adamant that they not be sworn in before their testimony?

17.) Would you have sent your daughters to a school whose science department taught that the earth is 10,000 years old?

18.) You appointed Karen Hughes, a woman who speaks no Arabic or Farsi, and who has no education in Middle East matters, to be our goodwill ambassador to the Muslim world. If another country appointed a goodwill ambassador to the United States who spoke no English and knew nothing about our country, how do you think that person would do?

19.) Why do you think the United States is so much more unpopular in virtually every country in the world since you took office? Are being respected and being "strong" mutually exclusive?

20.) Would you say you are someone who is able learn from his mistakes?
I'm not so sure how stupid Bush is. He's convened and fronted a team that has achieved a good number of its major objectives. American society is being militarized, bases are being built in Iraq, detention centers are being built in the U.S., war profiteers are making money hand over fist, the transfer of power from the legislative branch to the executive is accelerating, the transfer of wealth from the middle and working classes (and even the very well to do) to the ruling class is accelerating, Constitutional barriers to global corporate feudal governance are being eliminated......that's just the beginning. I'd say that the Bush gang is getting it done.

On Iraq

How many acres of brush have you cleared since the outset of the war?

"Mr. President your drug and alchohol dependency as well as your failed businesses have shown you've had a lot of difficulty managing things in your life. Given this, what makes you think you can manage the affairs of a large country?

Has illegal evesdropping on American Citizens clued you in to their discontent and the fact that most of them hate you?

Are you having any better luck distinguishing between the Voice Inside Your Head and the Voice of God?

If the War in Iraq is such a "noble cause", why are your service-age daughters not serving in the armed forces there?

If Iraq was the center piece for fighting terroism why didn't we go into Iran, China, Korea, Syria, Saudi Arabia and other nations who supported terrorists?

We armed Saddam against Iran, and then your father arranged to sell weapons to Iran on the sly (at a time when such sales were forbidden by US law) so that they could fight Saddam. Did this have anything to do with the fact that Iran did not release the hostages (who had been held for over a year) until just after Reagan was elected? Aren't you happy your Dad helped those guys out so much?

How did a gay male prostitute Jeff Gannon get such VIP access inside the White House?

In retrospect, was GEN Eric Shinseki correct in saying that we would need 400,000 troops to control Iraq?

Why have the borders in Iraq NEVER been closed?

Why do we allow the citizens of Iraq to have assault rifles in their homes when the same weapons were confiscated and destroyed during Kosovo?

Was it wise to disband the Iraqi Army, scattering over a million militarily trained Iraqis and sending them home penniless, giving an insurgency plenty of foot soldiers?

Considering during WW2, America produced some 80,000 tanks and howitzers, 324,000 aircraft, and 600 naval vessels, why has it taken so long to armor old Humvees, and get the "deluxe" up-armored Humvees to the front lines?

On all of the other things he's fucked up

How do you sleep? Like Cheney with all the lights on?

Is the reason you believe we are winning in Iraq, because like Cheney you only watch Fox News?

"Why shouldn't you be tried as a war criminal?

What is your definition of terrorism and how is the war in Iraq not state-sponsored terrorism?

Why did you flip-flop on holding Rove accountable for his treason at the expense of US security?

Is Karl Rove still under investigation? If he is, why haven't you suspended him until the charges have been dismissed?

Would you go on a hunting trip with Dick Cheney? Why not?

Should Justice Scalia have his middle finger cut off before he uses it once more?

And speaking of the devil, should Scalia recuse himself on ANY question relating to the Iraq War after what he said last week in Geneva?

Have you considered switching jobs with Laura and allow yourself to become First Gentleman?

Ignite! software, founded by your brother Neil, is set up to teach to standardized testing. Your "no child left behind" program requires standardized testing. Other than the familial relationship, do you have a financial or otherwise vested interest in Ignite!?

What were you really thinking while you were listening to My Pet Goat, and afterward when you dragged out the goodbyes to the teachers at that school in Florida?

Would you act differently if the surgeons removed the chip in your head, that cheney and his corporate-energy-contractor alliance installed?

Did you know that during WWII soldiers prayed that if they were captured that they be captured by U.S. forces because we were known for our humane treatment and adherance to the Geneva Convention? Now we are known around the world for active support of torture and other despicable acts?

How does it feel to destroy a robust economy and to drive the U.S. into incredible debt?

How many more Katrinas will it take for you to admit that global warming exists and to stop blocking dialogue and actions around climate change and global warming?

How much more unprepared could an administration have been to not have realized how deeply felt the public's response would be to the Dubai ports deal?

How do you excuse unfettered cronyism, corporatism, and corruption?
20 Questions for Chimp in Chief Bush
By BlackJesus
4/1/06

1. You are a confirmed member as is your father of the Bohemian Grove secret society in California, since it is now known that this group worships a giant idol of an owl in a deeply occult ritual, I was wondering if you could tell us what you think Jesus would say about that?

2. You are also a confirmed member of the Skull and Bones secret society at Yale, as was your father, and Presidential opponent John Kerry. Do you believe that the American people should be comforted by the fact that a secret group at Yale that only takes a dozen members a year, coincidentally got lucky and picked 100 % of the 2004 U.S. Presidential ballot?

3. You claim that Osama is responsible for the deaths of 3,000 Americans on 9/11, and recently you have admitted that since the US invasion of Iraq, in your estimation 30,000 Civilians have perished. Do you feel responsible for the deaths of those 30,000 people? , and what is it like to know that you have enacted the equivalent of 10 - 9/11's on a country that was no threat to the U.S.?

4. Why in the past 2 years has your jaw constantly been gyrating and making weird twitches. People in the medical community point out that is a sign of prolonged Cocaine use? It is well known that you were a coke monkey for more than a decade. Do you feel that booger sugar usage is why you are now twitching your jaw so much?

5. One of your first companies was Arbusto Oil Company in which Salim Bin Laden - (Osamas brother) invested 50,000 $. Do you feel that it is ok for a sitting President to have taken 50,000 $ from Osama bin Ladens brother earlier in life?

6. Your father owns millions in stock in the military contractor - The Carlyle Group. Now it is now estimated that for every dollar spent in Iraq by the U.S. Govt, 5 cents of it goes to the Carlyle group. Do you see a conflict of interest, in the fact that your Father is directly profiting from a war you are carrying out?

7. It is known and not even disputed that on September 11th 2001, your father was at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington D.C. at a Caryle board meeting with Shafig bin Laden (Osamas Brother), what do you think the odds are that on the morning Osama Bin Laden supposedly attacked the United States, your own father would be meeting with his brother?

8. Your brother Marvin Bush was a principal in the Securacom Company which provided security for the World Trade Center, United Airlines, and Dulles International Airport from which the planes took off. Now since all three of these things joined on 9/11, how would you respond to those that find this to a fishy coincidence?

9. Your grandfather Prescott Bush, was the managing director of the Union Banking Corporation which was the American branch of Adolph Hitler’s banking network. Also it is a fact that in Oct of 1942, your grandfather Prescott Bush was the director of Brown Brothers Harriman a company which owned the Holland-American Trading Corporation and the Seamless Steel Equipment Corporation which were seized in 1942 by the U.S. govt under the trading with the enemy act. Thus we can now trace most of your families initial fortune to the Nazi War machine, how does that make you feel to know that your families wealth was derived from illegally arming the Nazi military?

10. Canada has a law on the books that bans those convicted of drunk driving from entering their country. However in 1976, you were charged with a DUI. How do you get around this law when you visit Canada?

11. When your 19 year old daughter Jenna was caught with using a fake ID to get drunk in a Texas Bar in May of 2001, did this reflect on you and Laura as parents or is that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree?

12. Was catching Saddam a bigger priority than catching Osama bin Laden?

13. In 1987 Harken Energy - a company that all of your own failed oil companies had been folded into, received a 25 million $ stock offering from the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) - A Middle Eastern Saudi banking interest. Then in 1992 the BCCI was exposed as a criminal enterprise that even funded Saddam Hussein. So basically your failing company was bailed out by Saudis that armed Saddam, what are your thoughts on that?

14. 2 days after 9/11 you personally allowed members of the Bin Laden family to fly out of the U.S. back to Saudi Arabia without questioning. Is it normal criminal investigative procedure to evacuate and never question all of the known family members of a nations most wanted terrorist?

15. According to White House documents your appearance at the Emma E. Booker Elementary School in Sarasota, Florida, on September 11, 2001 was publicly announced on the morning of September 7. Later that same day, supposed 9/11 hijackers Mohamed Atta and Marwan Alshehhi traveled to Sarasota and enjoyed drinks and dinner at a Holiday Inn only two miles down the sandy beach from where you were scheduled to stay during your Sarasota visit (according to the Washington Post, 1/27/02). Should this be seen as peculiar?

16. At approximately 8:48 a.m. on the morning of September 11, 2001, the first pictures of the burning World Trade Center were broadcast on live television. At this time the U.S. govt and yourself had also been made aware that 3 planes had been hijacked. So why, at 9:03 a.m.—fifteen minutes after it was clear the United States was under terrorist attack—did you sit down with a classroom of second-graders and begin a 20-minute pre-planned photo op? And then when told of the second attack at 9:03 am, did you sit there for 7 minutes frozen doing nothing?

17. You are on record of saying that Stem cell research is wrong because in effect it is unethical to save some lives by killing others. However, isn't this what the War on Terror in your mind does?

18. While Cindy Sheehan was being dragged from the House gallery moments before President Bush delivered his State of the Union address for wearing a t-shirt honoring her son and the other 2,244 U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq, Saudi Prince Turki al-Faisal was settling into his seat inside the gallery. Now you personally invited Faisal (who is also the Saudi Ambassador to the U.S.), who has met Osama bin Laden and his lieutenants on at least five occasions, describing the al Qaeda leader as “quite a pleasant man" to the state of the Union address ... now why is that?

19. Have you ever read the U.S. plan for Operation NORTHWOODS? and if so what did you think?

20. We know that the Project for a New American Century (PNAC) stated in 2000 that the U.S. needed “a new Pearl Harbor” in order to justify reshaping the middle east. Now the members of this group include your brother Jeb Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, and Dick Cheney. Have you ever asked any of them what they meant in this report?
