Guest Whodey420
Reds to Retire Concepcion's Number From Associated Press April 30, 2007 10:16 AM EDT CINCINNATI - Shortstop Dave Concepcion, the Big Red Machine's infield anchor and one of the best defensive players of his time, will have his No. 13 retired by the Cincinnati Reds. The nine-time All-Star played for the Reds from 1970-88, winning five Gold Gloves. The Reds will formally retire his number before a July 28 game against the Chicago Cubs. No one has worn Concepcion's number since he retired. Only three others have worn No. 13 for Cincinnati - Eddie Miller in 1946, Eddie Pellagrini in 1952-53, and coach Ray Shore in 1966-67. Concepcion is the ninth player or manager to have his number retired by the Reds. His No. 13 will be displayed behind home plate at Great American Ball Park along with the other retired numbers - manager Fred Hutchinson's No. 1, Johnny Bench's No. 5, Joe Morgan's No. 8, manager Sparky Anderson's No. 10, Ted Kluszewski's No. 18, Frank Robinson's No. 20 and Tony Perez's No. 24. The Reds also display Jackie Robinson's No. 42, retired by baseball on the 50th anniversary of when he broke the sport's color barrier.

Guest oldschooler
Reds blew this, need to fix it Dayton Daily News Tony Perez is happy the Reds finally got around to retiring Dave Concepcion's No. 13, but he isn't happy with the day the Reds chose for the ceremony — July 28.That is Hall of Fame weekend in Cooperstown, N.Y., and Perez is committed to events there, as are Concepcion's other Hall of Fame teammates — Johnny Bench and Joe Morgan, along with manager Sparky Anderson. "I go every year to the Hall of Fame," said Perez. "I saw Davey Sunday and I told him, 'That's Hall of Fame weekend. How did the Reds choose that date? I'd like to be there. Maybe they'll move it."

Reds moves Concepcion date The date of the Dave Concepcion jersey #13 retirement ceremony has been changed from July 28 to August 25.
http://www.1530homer.com/pages/lancesBlog.html

I'd love to make it home for that weekend. I played ball with a Concepcion glove as a kid. He was always a favorite. I'd love to be there the day that he finally gets his due.
