Draft Thoughts

Recommended Posts

Looking at the draft, the first 3 rounds will be the most important as far as the Bengals are concerned. The first 2 rounds you would want the Bengals to draft needs first and not best player availble. With this in mind I've come up with some combinations on first 3 rounds that may/ may not suite the Bengals.

Draft 1 - assuming Thomas David falls on laps at 17.....
1. Thomas Davis SS
2. Chris Spencer/Ben Wilkerson C - shouldn't take C after round 2, we need the best centre available to replace Richie Braham. C is a position to sensitive on this team to draft a project player on round 3 or lower, as our offense will splutter if Braham goes down injured regardless of the talent we have.
3. Antonio Perkins CB - this guy has lots of potiential and is already a good cover corner, and would be perfect to groom behind Tory James who is getting on, and who's contract hasn't got long left. Perkins is as fast as Champ Bailey, Dunta Robinson, and DeAngelo Hall - 4.35 40 dash. Just needs to bulk up but has tons of upside. Could also, go TE - Matt Jones, WR - Roscoe Parrish(good slot receiver replacement for P-Dub - ready for when his contract expires next year), or MLB.

Draft 2 - assuming Davis doesn't fall.....
1. WR, possibly TE, BUT NOT DT as we have plenty of depth their in young talent - give askew a chance and robinson will be good for atleast another couple of years. We Can go DT next year as more of a need.
2. Chris Spencer/Ben Wilkerson C - DO NOT DRAFT SHAZOR AS CENTRE SHOULD BE PRIORITY IN ROUND 2 - FORGET HOW GOOD SHAZOR IS, THERE ARE EQUALLY GOOD SAFETIES IN LOWER ROUNDS. SHAZOR ISN'T VERSATILE ENOUGH TO BE A ML SAFETY - HE DOESN'T HAVE THE ABILITY TO PLAY BOTH SPOTS - UNLIKE HERRING, MITCHELL, AND WILLIAMS WHO ARE ALL INTERCHANGEABLE WHICH IS WHAT ML LIKES.
3. James Butler FS/SS - The most versatile safety in the draft, and the closest thing to Madieu Williams. Can play both safety spots. Has too much upside to ignore - good against run and pass. Not a project player by any means.

Well, any thoughts......

I agree with you. I also think we should draft a C earlier, and also believe that you can always find a good safety deeper in the draft. Besides, I am more comfortable with our ability to find hidden D talent than O talent (except where RB is concerned. Anderson simply put, is a badass.)
