Steelers ILB Larry Foote thinks his time is winding down as the team's starter with last year's first-round pick Lawrence Timmons coming on.

Foote figures the switch is just a matter of time because of the "politics of the game" and Timmons' obvious talent. Foote may remain the starter in name, but Timmons figures to at least force his way into a time share in the middle.

Browns | Bentley would have been gone if he failed test Monday

Tony Grossi, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports Cleveland Browns C LeCharles Bentley (knee) had to run 20 40-yard dashes within pre-set time limits Monday, June 9, to prove to Browns coaches and general manager Phil Savage that his knee could withstand the same rigorous test required of all players. Savage gave the thumbs-up sign after Bentley ran 10 of them. Savage said Bentley's career with the team would have been over if he had not passed.

(Rotoworld) Ravens coach John Harbaugh said on WBAL radio Tuesday that he expects Jonathan Ogden to decide whether he'll retire later this week.

Impact: "It's going to be interesting to see what he does," said Harbaugh, who's apparently still holding out hope Ogden will play in 2008. That doesn't seem likely.

Jonathan Ogden will formally announce his retirement on Thursday, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Ogden will meet with team officials Wednesday. The 11-time Pro Bowler considered playing one more year, but wasn't confident his balky toe would allow him to perform at a high level. The Ravens will start former supplemental pick Jared Gaither at left tackle this season and may sign Barry Sims for depth. Jun. 11 - 1:20 pm et

(Rotoworld) Browns OLB Willie McGinest has reportedly missed a "big chunk" of OTAs due to unknown personal reasons.

Impact: McGinest doesn't have a whole lot left as a player, so if he's not around to be a leader type, he doesn't have much value. The Browns probably won't consider releasing McGinest, but he isn't guaranteed a big role on defense.

The Steelers haven't approached LT Marvel Smith about a contract extension.

Smith is returning from back surgery. He's in the same boat as Alan Faneca last year. He's a quality starter, but the Steelers probably won't pay market price to keep him. Smith seems likely to head elsewhere after this contract year.

Joe Jurevicius admits that he may have to consider retirement after this season.

"I would not miss this season for the world," he said. "Physically, if the wear and tear of an NFL season really takes its toll on me, then I'll have to sit down and make a decision," Jurevicius said. He insists he'll be ready for training camp despite multiple surgeries this offseason.

Backs against the wall: How scary are things at cornerback for the Browns, who lost Daven Holly for the season and traded starter Leigh Bodden to Detroit? They head into training camp with two second-year players -- Brandon McDonald and Eric Wright. McDonald missed the beginning of Cleveland's minicamp, moving recently signed Terry Cousins into the starting lineup temporarily. General manager Phil Savage admitted the Browns have to come up with another cornerback before the start of the season. After their first minicamp practice, backup cornerback Jerome Perry headed into the training room and yelled, "I'll go get an X-ray." Browns people cringed. Fortunately for the Browns, the X-ray was only for a minor finger injury.

I like the updates on the "enemies", and your 'know your enemies as well as you know your friends' philosophy you have.
;) ...thanks!

We live in a dynamic world and I want to know how circumstances are changing for our enemies as well. Plus, can you imagine how many threads you'd have to look up to get all this information?
(KFFL) Bob Asmussen, of The News-Gazette, reports Pittsburgh Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall nearly quit football before the 2007 season at the University of Illinois. "I sat down and I was like, 'If this is what football is, I don't know if I want to do that anymore,'" Mendenhall said. "I'm not soft at all. I'm not scared of adversity. I don't care if somebody's yelling at me. That's not what it was about at all." Mendenhall's brother ultimately convinced him to stay and play football.
