CINCINNATI FOOTBALL STARS TO BE HONORARY FÚTBOL CAPTAINS

CINCINNATI, OHIO | May 10th, 2016

This Saturday, FC Cincinnati will face the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in a 4pm kickoff at Nippert Stadium. As we all know, the city of Cincinnati and its sports fans have a bit of a rivalry with Pittsburgh. That rivalry has traditionally been played out on football fields and baseball diamonds, but this weekend will extend to the pitch for the first time.

And unsurprisingly, a few of those involved in the battles with Pittsburgh in those other sporting arenas wanted to make sure we provided a warm welcome to the next team from Pittsburgh to visit town.

Serving as honorary FC Cincinnati captains and due to be announced on the field at this Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds will be Cincinnati football stars Giovani Bernard, Vontaze Burfict, Jeremy Hill, Kevin Huber, Adam Jones, Dre Kirkpatrick and Domata Peko.

“Cincinnati and Pittsburgh is probably one of the nastiest rivalries in football,” said Peko. “Whenever we play Pittsburgh everyone wants us to beat them. That’s how I feel when it comes to soccer. Hopefully we can get this big win.”

The game against Pittsburgh been marked as an “Orange Out”, with FCC inviting all of their supporters to wear orange to match the limited edition orange kits the Orange & Blue will be wearing that night. The club has already pre-sold over 10,000 tickets and is looking to draw 25,000 to the match — and mark that would best he United Soccer League record attendance of 20,497 that FCC set on April 16th against Louisville.

Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. with gates opening at 3:00 p.m. The match will be broadcast on Local 12 and simulcast on ESPN 1530.
