The Cincinnati Post's Marc Lancaster reports Cincinnati Reds minor league OF Chris Denorfia has been named a starting outfielder for the Triple-A All-Star game, to be held July 12 in Toledo. Denorfia hit .349 with four home runs, 11 doubles, 30 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 61 games with Triple-A Louisville.

Updating previous items, The Cincinnati Post's Marc Lancaster reports Cincinnati Reds SP Brandon Claussen (shoulder) had an MRI exam last week, prior to his first mound session Wednesday, June 28, that revealed a common level of fraying around the rotator cuff. He was diagnosed with rotator cuff tendinitis and also received a cortisone shot.

The Cincinnati Post's Marc Lancaster reports Cincinnati Reds RP Matt Belisle (back) looked impressive in his first outing Wednesday night, June 28, since coming off the disabled list. He pitched the ninth inning in a blowout win, and hit 95 mph with his first pitch of the night. He retired the side in order and collected two strikeouts. Belisle said he felt good after the outing and didn't have any sign of the lower back problems that had originally forced him to the disabled list.

The Cincinnati Post's Marc Lancaster reports Cincinnati Reds prospect SP Homer Bailey has pitched well in two outings for Double-A Chattanooga after being promoted there from Class A Sarasota. He hadn't allowed any runs in either of his starts at the higher level.

Updating previous items, The Cincinnati Post's Marc Lancaster reports Cincinnati Reds 3B Edwin Encarnacion (ankle) still had a bit of a limp in his sprained left ankle during a rehab game with Triple-A Louisville Friday night, June 30. The team is waiting until his ankle is better to activate him from the disabled list, but manager Jerry Narron believes that will happen before the All-Star break.

The Cincinnati Post's Marc Lancaster reports the Cincinnati Reds are among the teams in the mix for 16-year-old Dominican catcher Francisco Pena, the son of New York Yankees coach Tony Pena. Pena is already 6 feet 2, 200 pounds, and is eligible to sign with a big league club for the first time under MLB rules Sunday, July 2.

The Cincinnati Post's Marc Lancaster reports left-handed throwing Cincinnati Reds RP Brian Shackelford will be used as a specialist out of the bullpen to face left-handed hitters. He's allowed just a .143 batting average against lefties, but right-handed hitters have pounded him for a .444 mark and three home runs.
