The Reds and relief pitcher Brian Meadows agreed to terms Thursday on a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The right-hander appeared in 53 games with the Devil Rays last season and went 3-6 with a 5.17 ERA and a career-high eight saves.

"He gives us some depth and another guy to compete for a spot on the team," Reds general manager Wayne Krivsky said. "He's a veteran who throws strikes and knows how to change speeds."

Meadows, who allowed 14 home runs and 90 hits overall in 692/3 innings last season, began his major league career as a starter with the Marlins in 1998 and also has pitched for the Padres, Royals and Pirates. In 214 career relief appearances, the 31-year-old is 10-12 with a 4.17 ERA and 10 saves.

The Reds also announced Thursday that first baseman Joey Votto, pitchers Jon Coutlangus, Phil Dumatrait and Calvin Medlock and outfielder Chris Dickerson have agreed to terms on one-year contracts. Twenty-three players on the 40-man roster are now signed for the upcoming season.[/quote]
