Guest BlackJesus Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 Dan Pompei analysis on Chris Spencer Best offensive lineman in the draft. Tough, dogged blocker; wins one-on-one matchups, latches on and won't give up. Takes good angles. Has short-area quickness. Gets good movement. Fires out. Has some nastiness. Don't stand around the pile when he's around. Plays with good base. Uses good technique. Could be more effective on the second level. Is better at blocking defensive linemen than linebackers and safeties. Can play guard as well. Is a former state champion power lifter. Left school after junior season. My Shrine to Chris Spencer.... The Bengals OL coach was at his pro day and conducted his workout.... Bengal Nation ...... our first round pick should be .... Our Center of the future.... Chris Spencer - I watched him at the combine and he pulled like a linebacker - for 310 lbs. he isn't fat and could probably even bulk up more - According to TSN he gave the best interview of anyone at the combine - He could Rival Willie for Biggest Bengals feet ever also.... with a 19 - No. 1 overall player from the State of Mississippi coming out of Highschool - Was a state power lifting champion in the state of Mississippi, Squats over 800 lbs - Hasn't given up a sack in his football career 4 years of Highschool and 3 years of College - Considered by most scouts to already be better than Damien Woody - Ranked the # 1 center in the nation CHRIS SPENCER C OLE MISS 6'3 309 lbs Size 19 shoe War Room analysis Strengths: Has good size and the frame to get bigger. Is quick footwork, and is very mobile. Gets into position against one-gap penetrating defensive tackles. Has the athletic ability to make blocks downfield. Shows good balance and lateral movement in pass protection. Has a strong upper body and a powerful hand punch; can jar defenders at initial contact. Is an excellent leader, is intelligent and has good character. News No offensive lineman shook up the Combine more than Spencer. Little known until recent weeks after leaving Mississippi following his junior year, Spencer could be the first interior offensive lineman, or maybe even the first offensive lineman, off the board. Spencer gave some of the most impressive interviews of any player at the Combine. Ole Miss head coach David Cutcliffe: "Chris Spencer is an extremely talented player, both physically and mentally," "He plays the game with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. He could well be one of the finest centers I have ever seen play college football." Highschool Notes: Won Class 5A Super Heavyweight powerlifting championship of Mississippi junior and senior years, and holds all the lift records ... During senior season, broke his own state record in the powerlifting competition, which is determined by combined weight lifted in three events (the squat, the bench press, and the dead lift) when he totaled 1,675 pounds ... That effort broke his own state record of 1,665 pounds set in South State competition earlier in the year. Guest BlackJesus Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 If we lose out on him on Draft Day........ look for me on the News
Skilly McRailnob Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 no way he drops to us in the 2nd round?

I'm beginning to think that taking Spencer in the 1st is probably the best idea, but trade down a few places for extra picks in either 2nd or 3rd. Tell me though, what would you do if Thomas Spencer was available at 17, should we take him and risk not getting Spencer in the 2nd????? Don't think I would like tro risk it. Like you I'm a huge fan of this guy so I hope we get him! Need for Centre > Need for Strong Safety English Bengal
Beaker Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 BJ pimpin' him = we won't get him. BJ, I want him too, but every time you want someone we lose him. Kiss of death. Start pimpin' someone we don't need, that way we'll get someone we do.
Guest CTBengalsFan Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 I definitely think we need to get Spencer this draft, Center is maybe the second most important position in the offense, and we need to get Braham's successor, and it seems that Spencer is the best Center in the draft.
Guest Claptonrocks Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 I'm on board the Chris Spencer train as well... I want this guy being on the first line of defense for Carson this year.. The scary thing about Chris is that he's only going to get better! I say trade down to 26 or so and pick up another draft choice and select him... He'll be a starter for the next decade and Carson wont have to worry about some big fatass DT crushing him.... "It all starts in the trenches"-Paul Brown
Guest IndianaBengal Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 GUy sounds like a longtime reliable beast. Bettere latch on to him. The Raiders got the best center in the draft last year. They also got the big guy from Iowa. Can't be losing all the top linemen to Al Davis.
Skilly McRailnob Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 did we pick up an extra 3rd or 4th rounder last year after moving from 24th to 26th?
Guest #22 Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 He is wayyyy too old to draft! But I would be pumped if we could get him in the First.

Guest #22 Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 I'm fucking kidding! I just wanted to get a rise out of these "30 years old is the cutoff point for X player" people that seem to pop up every time a pick or a Free Agent rears his head
Guest BlackJesus Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 Also if any of you would like to add something to my shrine.... post the pic and I can add it..... Make an offering to the football Gods fuckers

Guest Matt_Six Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 nothing to do with the post... but i read todat that frank gore has a learning disability which would explain his 6 on the Wonderlic test. Not sure if that has already been established here or not --- didnt think i needed to start a new thread

[post="68212"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
I just read today that he has overcome a lot of horrible things in his life... The two knee blow-outs and the learning disability - There's another top-rated guy (ill check again on his name later) who has a speech impediment. Those draft magazines have EVERYTHING. It cost me $7.99!!!
Guest Matt_Six Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 Oh yea - the answer to the question... I dont know the disability
Beaker Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 That one went right over his head. Sheesh. Maybe Akili was his tutor too.
Guest #22 Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 anybody know how good he was against the run or how many he had?
