EVENDALE – Southbound Interstate 75 remains shut down at the Sharon Road exit while police investigate a shooting and crash on the highway in which two people were killed early today, police said.

The highway closed about 3 a.m., about 15 minutes after the shootings, said Evendale Police Lt. Greg Phillips.

He said two people inside a maroon sport utility vehicle were fired upon by men in another car. The SUV crashed in the right lane near Glendale-Milford Road. The men in the SUV were shot several times. The other car has not been located.

The men in both vehicles had just left The Garage Sports Bar & Grill on Crowne Point Drive in Sharonville, where they had some sort of dispute, he said.

The maroon SUV was fired upon less than a quarter mile after they left the bar and got onto southbound I-75 at Sharon Road, Phillips said.

"Several rounds were fired at the victims' car. I'd say at least nine. We found nine bullet holes in the car," he said. "We have a crime scene that goes about three tenths of a mile. There's a turnaround (on I-75) just north of Glendale-Milford Road and just shy of that is where the gunfire started. The victim ended up hitting a guardrail and then slipped and ran off the right side of the road."

Police haven't been able to determine yet if the men in the SUV fired back with a handdgun found in the vehicle. A small amount of marijuana was found in the vehicle, Phillips said.

Detectives are still gathering evidence from the scene, including shell casings from a 9 mm handgun and a .223 mm assault rifle, Phillips said.

No arrests have been made, according to Phillips and Springfield Township Police Sgt. Chris Niehaus.

Springfield Township police assisted Evendale by interviewing a witness who lives in Springfield Township, Niehaus said.

“We are searching for suspects but we don’t have any directions or leads at this time,” Phillips said.

Motorists are urged to detour around the area by taking I-275 eastbound to I-71 or westbound to I-74 and then to I-75.

Motorists also can exit the highway at Sharon Road and head south on Reading Road.

The shootings are reminiscent of a highway shooting in May 2006 in which vans carrying rapper Clifford "T. I." Harris and others were shot at as they traveled south on I-75 after leaving Club Ritz in Roselawn.

Four people in the rapper's entourage were injured. T.I.'s assistant and best friend, Philant Johnson, 26, was shot in the head and killed.

In November, a Hamiilton County jury convicted Hosea Thomas of murder and he was sentenced to 66 years to life in prison.
