My latest mock

Recommended Posts

Going off some of the other mocks out there that are projecting trades I'm going to have Seattle trading their No. 1 pick to Cincy for Carson. I doubt they can get that for him but it's been put out there so I'm going with it.
Also, Joseph and Benson both must be re-signed in this scenario.
I'm also throwing in a trade for Chad. Cincy gives up Chad and our second round pick to get the Jets first round pick. I know they have some good receivers but I think Braylon gets more money to go elswhere and Chad would be a good No. 2 for them at a fair price.
As far as QB goes, the Bengals wait and see if McNabb hits the open market, maybe give up future picks to get him or Orton in as a stop-gap, but this is a good year to get the other pieces needed for whoever they draft in 2012 so he isn't walking into a mess. Gradkowski is my third option - the guy impresses me whenever I watch him play, doesn't lose games for his team, not a guy that's going to be a long-term answer though
I thought I read somewhere that the Bengals got a comp pick but can't remember where so I'll leave those out for now.

Round 1
Pick No. 4 - Von Miller, OLB, this guy could be a true game changer at the LB position, something this team doesn't have right now.
Pick No. 23 from Seahawks - Mike Pouncey, OG/C, he could be gone by this pick but the Bengals need a big upgrade at interior line and he's a great option.
Pick No. 30 from Jets - Rahim Moore, S, another position the Bengals need a game changer at and he's the best option out there. He could slip to them in the second but I think it's worth the risk to move up and get him here.
Round 3
Pick No. 2 - John Moffit, OG, beefing up the interior line again, this guy could go higher IMO but I think this is a good spot to get him, should push Bobbie from the start
Round 4
Pick No. 4 - Dontay Moch, OLB - if the Bengals get a third round comp take him there, if not hope he falls to the fourth. He is a DE but only 230, might have seen him on ESPN today - reportedly runs a 4.3 forty. He would be a project since he's switching positions but is the kind of player the Bengals could take here. you can never have too much LB depth and with his speed he'd be great on teams, maybe develop into a beast at OLB in a couple years
Round 5
Pick No. 3 - DeAndre Brown, WR - 6-foot-6 228 pounds, this is the big possession guy the offense lacks at WR. Could be too high for him, but there's some other good receiver possibilities here.

last two rounds GO NUTS!

I know some will not like this because there is no DL taken. I really think the Bengals have good mix of youth, talent and experience on the line already. I wouldn't be against taking somebody like Fairley, Bowers or Quinn but I don't think it's as big a need a most do.
Also, I'm completely comfortable with the prospects of Simpson, Caldwell and Shipley being our top three receivers next season.

out of curiosity, why both Miller and Moch? Not sure we need two LB's (JMO), plus both's biggest strengths is rushing the passer, which Zimmer doesn't do much with his LB's.

I also think 2 guards is overkill, though both good picks. If they do go two OL, one is bound to be a tackle that can kick into guard, which they like. Also think Moffitt will go lower.

Really like the Brown pick, I actually don't think he'll last that long.

Don't have a problem with Moore. haven't done much research on him, but know he's one of the top safeties.

I went with two LB's because the Bengals always seem snake bit at that position. I'm not confident Brandon Johnson returns and he's our only good backup. I think Miller will be a great all-around LB, I don't think he should be lumped in with the pass-rush specialist LB's. As far as Moch, he's there for future depth, taking a chance on a guy that is basically a great athlete.

I don't think 2 guards is overkill. Andre has to play tackle, if he can't the Bengals need to let his big salary go. Pouncey could play center if need be but they are going to need two new guards within the next season or two. Even if Bobbie holds off Moffit, he won't do it for long and you want that natural takeover at a position where the young guy makes the old guy expendable rather than drafting a guy because the one you have sucks balls. Secure the interior line for the next 5-6 years and then you can start looking at QB's as the tackles should be set with Whit and Andre (assuming he lives up to his potential) I'm not married to the Moffit pick, I'd gladly see any other OL taken at that spot, but it seems like Wisconsin produces good linemen that are smart.

Brown I picked based on numbers alone, haven't seen him play, know nothing about his character but he was projected 5-7th round so I figured you better take the big boy in the 5th

I'm the same on Moore, not sure where he'll go since he played on a bad UCLA D last year. he's been so up and down, I think the combine will straighten out where he goes. If he figures to drop, I'd trade Chad to Washington for McNabb or trade him to the highest bidder (at least a third) and take Dalton, QB from TCU.

On a side topic - if the Bengals sign Bob Sanders and re-sign Roy Williams we can have the best safety tandem to never get on the field!
