The Bengals retained veteran tight end [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/4614/donald-lee"]Donald Lee[/url], the team announced. The signing of a blocking tight end doesn't stir a lot of debate, but it got me to think about Cincinnati's level of activity in free agency.

These have been some busy Bengals. Lee is the 14th player signed by the Bengals in free agency, which is now 30 days old. That's almost an average of one signing every two days. Even after the flurry of signings, the Bengals still have the most salary-cap room in the NFL, a reported $20 million in cap space.

Seven of those free agents were re-signed: Lee, safety [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/10465/reggie-nelson"]Reggie Nelson[/url], linebacker [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/9608/manny-lawson"]Manny Lawson[/url], cornerback [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8421/adam-jones"]Adam Jones[/url], defensive tackle [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/11311/pat-sims"]Pat Sims[/url] and offensive tackles [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/11346/anthony-collins"]Anthony Collins[/url] and [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/10377/dennis-roland"]Dennis Roland[/url].

Seven of the free agents came from other teams: running back [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/11754/benjarvus-green-ellis"]BenJarvus Green-Ellis[/url] (Patriots), guard [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/5619/travelle-wharton"]Travelle Wharton[/url] (Panthers), cornerbacks [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/9602/jason-allen"]Jason Allen[/url] (Texans) and [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/4463/terence-newman"]Terence Newman[/url] (Cowboys), guard [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/5663/jacob-bell"]Jacob Bell[/url] (Rams) and defensive ends [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/11116/jamaal-anderson"]Jamaal Anderson[/url] (Colts) and [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/11241/derrick-harvey"]Derrick Harvey[/url] (Broncos).

By keeping Lee, the Bengals will return their top three tight ends from last season with [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/13228/jermaine-gresham"]Jermaine Gresham[/url] and [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/14658/colin-cochart"]Colin Cochart[/url].
