Just heard that Merv Rettenmund passed away on Dec. 7 at the age of 81.

 

He came to the Reds in the trade that sent P Ross Grimsley to the Orioles in Dec. 1973, and was on the Big Red Machine's first championship team in '75.

 

He was traded to the Padres in April of 1976.

The photo on the right is from Game 2 of the '75 WS where he popped out pinch-hitting for Will McEnaney in the 8th inning.
