The Entertainer
Jets TE Baker won't play Sunday because of back injury Associated Press Updated: October 20, 2007, 7:11 PM ET HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Jets tight end Chris Baker won't play in New York's game at Cincinnati after he was downgraded Saturday from questionable to out with a back injury. Baker, who has 12 catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns, was limited in practice all week and didn't accompany the team to Cincinnati. It was unclear when Baker was hurt and it's against the Jets' policy to discuss injuries. Baker's agent, Cliff Brady, referred questions by The Associated Press about the injury to the team and was unsure how long the tight end might be sidelined. "I'm not a doctor," Brady said. "So, I'd rather not speculate." Baker caught some flak from coach Eric Mangini after New York's 16-9 loss to Philadelphia last Sunday, when he openly questioned the play-calling in the closing minutes as the Jets failed to score -- or get a first down -- from the Eagles 4. Brady shot down any speculation that Baker was kept back in New York as punishment for his comments. "No, absolutely not," Brady said. "It had nothing to do with that at all. Not at all. It was because of the injury." Baker, in his sixth season with the Jets, has been one of quarterback Chad Pennington's most reliable targets. The former third-round pick out of Michigan State had a breakout season last year, catching a career-high 31 passes for 300 yards and four touchdowns. The Jets have plenty of depth at the tight end position, with Sean Ryan, Joe Kowalewski, Jason Pociask and James Dearth, normally the long snapper, on the roster.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3071997

|Bunghole|
Don't worry guys, our linebackers and safeties have a grand opportunity to make one of the Jets backup TE's look like Tony Gonzalez for a day!
texbengal
This is a fairly significant loss - he's a good receiver, and he was a guy I was hoping the Bengals would bring in when he was an FA. Not sure who the backup is, but given the Bengals' inability to cover the TE, this one hurts the Jets.
