The disgraced Olympic figure skater-turned-beefy slugger will face skinny transvestite television personality Daisy D, best known locally for his "Queen on the Scene" antics on the South Florida gossip TV show "Deco Drive." The gender-bender brawl takes place March 10 at Beach Bums in Fort Lauderdale. advertisement "Daisy D never told me she was a he when we were talking on the phone," groaned promoter Damon Feldman. "Well, it's close enough. Tonya doesn't mind too much." Feldman said the three-round "celebrity boxing" main event will become a pro wrestling match because the Florida Dept. of Business and Professional Regulation, which oversees the Florida Boxing Commission, nixed the idea of Harding sparring a totally inexperienced opponent - despite the fact that they would be wearing 16-ounce gloves and protective head gear. "Harding is a known professional boxer and according to our rules she can only fight as a professional fighter," said Department spokeswoman Meg Shannon. "She cannot participate in a prearranged fight because that would be illegal. Prearranged fights are considered fixed fights under our rules." But Florida does not oversee pro wrestling, Shannon said - so almost anything goes. "As long as Harding doesn't wear boxing gear while she is engaged in pro wrestling, the promoter is not breaking the law." Harding has a 3-3 record as a professional boxer. And like Daisy D, she has no known pro wrestling experience. In addition to Harding, Feldman will feature four other pro wrestling matches, including "a local wrestler who weighs 650 pounds." There will also be a raunchy Paris Hilton look-a-like contest, with the winner getting at least $250 in cash, Feldman said. How funny would it be when you were, um, finishing up to say something like "Oh Nancy". And, regardless of how huge she is, if I were to get a bathroom stall hummer from Tonya Harding. But what of it? I've hung out with some low people, frequented some questionable places, involved myself in some tangled conversations and been around some strange, strange sports events. And that was just in covering the 2004 Dolphins. So how could I pass up a chance to be around the lowest, most questionable, certifiably strangest event you'll ever -- alas, perhaps never -- see? Tonya vs. the Transvestite. It's a pseudo-boxing match scheduled for Thursday night at Beach Bums on Fort Lauderdale beach. If it comes off you'll see Jerry Springer's America live and in mouth guards, as well as a fighter who swings like the man he is but could double as a round-card girl. "I didn't think of that," Daisy said. Well, that's why I'm here. But let's move to the main event. Let's talk with Tonya. All of her. And, just for the record, yes, that really is her. I had to ask. There's no sense being mean about it. Let's just say she's really grown as a person. "When I was a figure skater I had to have a figure like a pixie," she said. "Now I have the figure of a boxer." What is it about Tonya that makes enough people curious, more than a decade after her Olympic embarrassment? Is it our reality-show society? Is it people rubber-necking at a car wreck? Is it the last time everyone saw her was in Norway, in the winter of 1994, when she slid across the ice, feet first, to end one of the highest-rated embarrassments in sports history? "It's that I'm a true American," Tonya said. "I did stupid things, got up, dusted myself off and went on with my life. That's why people are interested." If I write down another quote like that, I'm definitely going to roast in sports-writing hell. Tonya is now 34, hasn't put on skates in a year, has fought five times and says after being sick for a while she's back to training. She runs a mile a day. Whew. And with road work like that underfoot, how long before we get the Tonya-Nancy Kerrigan pay-per-view bout? "I wouldn't dishonor her like that by even asking," she said. Tonya, Tonya, Tonya. If you want to be in the circus, you've got to play the clown. Say something like the only difference between Tonya and Tony Soprano is one knee-capped letter. "[Kerrigan] wouldn't want to do that," Tonya said. "I wouldn't want to do that. We'd like to both get on with our lives and for people to let us. I mean, it was 11 years ago." If nothing else, Tonya seemed to understand how foolish this all looked, stifling a laugh when sitting next to Daisy D., who wore a fishnet getup she called "hooker chic" and is "a little nervous about getting hit in the face." "The last fight I was in was with another transvestite over me singing a song she wanted to sing in a show, or she singing a song I wanted to sing," she said. "There was some scratching, but it was broken up before anyone threw a punch." "You're quite tall, aren't you?" Tonya said to Daisy during a photo shoot. "I've just got heels on," she said. And so it went. The Florida Boxing Association has ruled this can't be sanctioned as a professional boxing match. So they're promoting this as a "celebrity boxing match on a wrestling card." Whatever that means. "It should be over pretty quick," Tonya said. "I don't even think she's fought." "You grow up a teenage drag queen, you fight a lot," Daisy said. Of course, I wrote it all down, proving who was most shameless on this day. So I am going to roast in hell. So what? If you've read this far, you are, too. Nobody will remember this, or anything else she ever does... No matter what ever else she does in life, they will always remember the Nancy Kerrigan thing. Although it pains me to say it... and I doubt I'd be able to rise to the occasion... I would still brag that Tonya Harding gave me a hummer. I just wouldn't say WHEN said hummer took place.
