Favorite Ball Player of all time. I think he should definately be in, just not first ballot.

6-Time All Star, awesome hitter, near perfect fielder (.992 lifetime FLD%). Best all-around first baseman in a long time.

[quote name='#22' date='Mar 9 2005, 03:34 PM']Thanks for responding.
On a side note: do you think McGwire should get in (since its not a question of if he will or won't)?

If he was only using enhancements that were legal at the time...yes.
If he was using banned substances ...no.

I think it's a fairly black or white issue, just like with gambling and Pete Rose. But with Rose, he didn't gamble as a player so he should get in. If McGuire took steroids as a hitting instructor should he be kept out.....no.

I agree. Same thing with Barry. He can HIT the ball better than anyone else in the past 20 years (even Ichiro), and his Discipline at the Plate is insane.

BUT, he hits the ball a lot further thanks to the juice.

Clark was a good hitter average wise ( .303 )
The problem is that he couldnt stay healthy... missed many games and that led to below average lifetime totals for homers ( 284 ) rbi's ( 1200 ) and hits ( 2100 )
these are not HOF numbers for a first basemen imo.....

No, but it can turn what would have been a fly ball out into a home run, and pad slugging, RBI, hits, BA, OBP, runs, and, of course, HR.

Well put. I don't think he belongs in the hall. He was a very good player, but not Hall of Fame caliber in my opinion.

By the way, I also don't think Palmerio belongs in the hall.

Palmero has had a wonderful carreer... He's one of just 4 ballplayers to achieve 3000 hits and hit over 500 homers....
He's a lock for the HOF and rightfully so....

Sorry Clapton, but I have to disagree. I think he will make the Hall, and I think he has had a good career, but if I had a vote I wouldn't rate him a HOF player.

He has the stats on the surface, but he has never done better than 5th in a MVP voting and only got to the All-Star game 4 times in his career, never as a starter. I have never thought of him as a dominant player, and have never gone out of my way to watch a game that he has played in. He also benefited from playing in very friendly left-handed hitters parks. The only thing memorable he has ever done in my mind is a Viagra commercial.

Sorry but I think of the Hall as something really special. A place where you truely have to be dominant at your position in your era. Palmerio was never that. I want the names to match-up to players like Mays, Aaron, Ruth, Mantle, etc. and Palmerio is far from that. He's got the surface stats and he had a very good-career, but not a Hall-worthy one.

Fuck it. The Hall of Fame doesn't really mean anything without Pete Rose anyway (espcially since cheaters like Niekro and scumbags like Cobb are in).
Cheating is PART OF THE GAME.

I say Palmiero definately gets in, though.

and there aren't many names who match up with Aaron, Mays, Ruth, Mantle, McCovey, or Bonds.
