Orange 'n Black
I'm selling my old laptop for parts on eBay, and I want to nuke all the data on my HDD. I could just format it, but I want to be as certain as possible that nobody could ever access my old data. I used it for 4 years so it's full of old passwords and personal info. What's a good (bootable) utility to do this with?
|Elflocko|
I always use either: DBAN or Active Kill Disk Both are free and do the job. Or you can just run a drill press through it; that'll work as well..
Orange 'n Black
Thanks for the recommendation on DBN. Running it right now and shipping my old laptop out to its happy new owner tomorrow. Appreciate it!

CincyInDC
Back in Windows 98 times a friend of mine had a hobby of building "floppies of death" and putting them into unsuspecting peoples' floppy drives. The best policy was to remove the floppy drive from the boot order and lock your BIOS.
