  1. The odd thing is that his dad is a football coach. One might think that even if his dad didn't coach D-line, he'd know of someone who could polish up his son in anticipation of a pro career.
  2. A "pressure" usually means forcing the QB to react in some way, either to scramble or throw early or move around in the pocket. Stewart has some great highlight plays but a lot of his pressures involved forcing the QB to scramble for a first down. Goodberry did a halfhour show on Stewart several weeks before the draft and why he didn't think Stewart was a good fit for the Bengals. The unfortunate part is there are some wellknown rules of thumb for edge rushers and interior O-linemen that reduce risk and ensure a higher hit rate. But the Bengals famously don't follow them and our results at those positions aren't very good. For edge, it's 70+ percentile pass rush win rate plus 9.2 or higher RAS. Stewart certainly clears the latter hurdle but isn't close to the first. Stewart's pass rush win rate of 13.2% was at the 57th percentile. Players like Jack Sawyer or Princely Umanmielen had much higher win rates but insufficient RAS scores. Ashton Gillotte had the requisite scores in both areas. Abdul Carter doesn't have a RAS score since he didn't test but his win rate of 23.1% was 99th per centile.
  3. He's got a lot of mileage on him but this was a good pick for the Bengals. He has a different skillset from Brown and can get the tough yards.
  4. Long snappers aren't hard to find. IMO Adomitis was fine but if the team wants to replace him, there are plenty of options. If the rookie makes the team and is a free agent after the season, he'd be an ERFA and have to take a minimum salary offer (or retire). Miami had a 9th year player this past season, a TE named McCormack. He got 3 hardship years for his various injuries plus the covid year and a redshirt.
  5. Remember when Butch Davis called Kelly Holcomb "magical"?
  6. They'll probably carry 9 O-linemen on the 53. No sign yet of interest in Risner/Scherff. So it looks like this: LT Orlando Brown Jr LG Dylan Fairchild C Ted Karras RG Cody Ford RT Amarius Mims C Lee/Patrick/McLaughlin G Patrick/Kirkland/Volson T Ford/Rivers/Cochran Volson probably doesn't make it and McLaughlin may start on PUP. Patrick and Rivers are likely to be 2 of the 4 backups. Lee should be as well. If we did add Risner/Scherff, that would be an upgrade to the starting line and let Ford cover more spots as a backup. Risner would probably fit in Volson's salary slot so he seems more likely.
  7. They won't have a vacancy at GM for many years. Doing the job well isn't a requirement to keep it.
  8. The scouts point was that just about all head coaches will talk up their players but Dabo does it to a ridiculous degree, far beyond other coaches. Perhaps it's related to his disinclination to take transfers and thus his dependency on high school recruits. Anyway, the scouts from different NFL teams agreed he was a bullshitter. Part of scouts jobs is to ask around for the dirt on players, what the coaches won't tell you about Bo Callahan's birthday party. There are plenty of assistant coaches who will dish on their players. The LSU strength coach used to put a sign on the door to his office for their pro day saying which of the draft eligible players were hard workers in the weight room and which weren't. The underclassmen got the message from that and a couple years later they won a natty.
  9. I think the holding issues were more Rehkow than Adomitis. The UDFA long snapper had his own issues with snaps in 2024.
  10. Jay Morrison said the Bengals are listing Rivers as a tackle rather than guard. So he's apparently not in contention for the starting RG spot.
  11. Article about top 10 undrafted players. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/draft/2025/04/26/nfl-draft-best-undrafted-free-agents-ranking-players/83209187007/
  12. This year's group seems to lack any knuckleheads. Character and intangible wise, they're a good group. How many will start and how well they'll do remains to be seen.
  13. Surprised he wasn't drafted. So OSU had "only" 14 players picked. McLaughlin is returning from an achilles tear but I'd guess will be able to participate in training camp. If he's not healthy by then, he could be stashed on the NFI list.
  14. Last year we had 10 picks so there was more to like.
  15. Yeah, McLaughlin for sure. Guards Marcus Wehr of Montana State and Thomas Perry of Middlebury LBs Shaun Dolac of Buffalo and Jackson Woodard of UNLV S JJ Roberts of Marshall Did anyone take Ty Hamilton? Several RB options. I think Donte Thornton of Tennessee is available at WR TEs Caden Prieskorn or Brant Kuithe
  16. I think the requirement is to play in a game, not necessarily start a game or throw a pass.
  17. Spergon Wynn don't get no respect
  18. Yeah, if they need another LB, they can get one from the UDFA ranks. I'd like Shaun Dolac or Jackson Woodard. But even if they can't trade Germaine, his time in Cincinnati is done.
  19. Yeah, that's the "market share" approach, how much of a team's TFLs or PBUs or whatever a given player was responsible for.
  20. I think Damien Martinez is still available and he's better at it than Brooks but Tahj is a good player who should be an asset for the Bengals.
  21. The picks around 49 were traded so there were certainly opportunities for their favorite move of trading back in round 2. But we don't know if they spoke with the other teams or not.
  22. Fairchild certainly isn't a mauler, his specialty is pass protection. Not sure about Rivers.
