Video of the Monday Night football skit between T.O. and the desperate housewives woman that has some people up in arms....

I was actually upset they didn't even show nip

Watch the video if you missed and see if you understand what all the fuss is about

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I think it's just people wanting a reason to bitch about something. That same kind of thing, or more is on primetime tv every night, and on soap operas every day. People are way too uptight about sex in this country.

Yet another example of how repressed America is about things like sex and alcohol. Parental prohibition propagates the "forbidden fruit" scenario once again.

If we gradually introduced topics such as these and weren't afraid to address them with our children, then they wouldn't always want to do the opposite of what they're told.

In this way the European model is superior to our own, especially wih regards to alcohol. They're less likely to abuse alcohol in most European countries because for instance, wine is a staple at the family table and children are allowed small, inceasingly incremental amounts to initiate them into the culture of moderate consumption, which is in vast contrast to the largely prohibitive American model, where Billy-Bob illicitly downs 21 shots of tequila on his 21st birthday as some stupid "rite of passage".

The Euros also inundate human sexuality at an earlier age-they just don't make a big fuss about it and therefore their children don't either.

Has anyone ever seen some European public TV? We here in the USA would have to pay good money for that kind of nudity! :)

I think this FCC thing is creeping towards outright censorship, and that is very, very bad.

Apparently the govt thinks that we aren't adult enough to police our children and their choices...

Had it not been for Janet at the Super Bowl----this would have not been an issue.

Not indecent but in poor taste (thye didn't show anything)---trying to plug their show to men as it has become the number 1 show watched by women.

True, but that doesn't mean the Govt has to get overly involved with everythinig. But I guess you're right in a sense...how would the govt. differentiate between those who were responsible and those who weren't? A written test?

Censorship is bad in any form, although overtly profane, exceedingly violent or pornographic material certainly shouldn't be made available to any children, regardless of their parents skill or lack thereof in raising their children to make good choices in life.

I'm reminded of the stink ABC affiliates were making over "Saving Private Ryan" and how many of them refused to air the movie because of fear of reprisal from the FCC. Ridiculous and somehow frightening!

It's all about context, baby.

FCC said it was ok for them to show it. I don't know why some stations still chose not to. Maybe they didn't want to have to deal with the people calling and complaining?

That would be my guess, although prior to the infamous "breast" incident, I don't recall anyone complaining when the very same network aired "Schindler's List" a few years ago.

Oh wait...a movie by a Jew, about the Jews, aired by liberal Jewish-controlled media...I get it now...

That's completely different though. Schindler's list is a historical movie, remembering those lost. It's a great reminder to all of us that our lives aren't so bad.

I don't know how you can even compare the 2.

while I agree with you based solely on historical content, both movies to me are really about triumph of the human spirit over the human propensity for evil. Forrest Gump is a completely fictional tale, but holds just as much meaning IMHO with regards to the human condition. If it had a blatant sex scene in it (like say, Jenny getting raped) that somehow fit into the context of the movie, I would view it's importance no differently than "List".

Just because something is historic or "based on a true story" doesn't give it any more value than complete fiction as long as it says something meaningful.

Shit, Shakespeare is FULL of violence, sex, wars, death, wrongdoings, etc and we teach that to our children! And it's fictitious! But it speaks volumes about humanity, which is why it remains relevant even today. It's just hard for most people to read because of the Old English being spoken-plus it ain't got none of them thar dirty words...

But Schindler's list actually shows us what it was like for the Jews, along with Saving Private Ryan. Without these movies, we wouldn't even really think about it. Plus, these movies are made for us to remember what these people went through.

Just joshing you...I think it's infinetely fascinating that the internet provides an anonymous forum for people all over the planet Earth to share their views, and also how interesting it is that a thread will get started and diverge into something else, gaining a life of it's own...

I wholly agree...but didn't you just compare them?  :D

I said that the Janet Jackson tit thing wasn't comparable to the Schindler's list movie ;)

I never intended to compare them...I was comparing "Saving" and "List"

The breast reference was to illustrate the network paranoia that the FCC has perpetrated upon them and us, and how the pendulum has swung too far the other way since then..God, you mean we've been arguing about two different things this whole time? And we've been agreeing without knowing it? Shit...

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

If you`re not capable of policing your childern then

1. You`re not an adult.

2. You shouldn`t have children

You can`t count on the government or society to

raise your kids... if you do then you are a burden to

society and should be put in jail for neglect.

Maybe a bit extreme...but so is saying some people can`t

police their children and thinking that`s OK.

The people that are bitching about the MNF intro/promo

are 2 kinds of people.

Prudes and Racists.

You said that some "people can`t police their children."

It sounded like you were taking the responsibility on yourself,

or at the least condoning it.

If neither then why mention it ?

Maybe I should have said some people DON'T police their children. I'm definitely not condoning it at all.
