Draft A
1. Talented, but a big reach at 24.
2. Good player, but all things considered, I'd be a little surprised if that was our 2.
3. Slight reach, but I could live with it if Marvin likes him.
4. Love the kid. Enough to be shocked if he drops that far.
5. See 4.
6. A little surprised if he drops that far
7. I could live with that

Draft B
1. I'm not a fan of Gabe (in 1) but I know a LOT of people would love the pick. He could be an absolute stud. He could also be a total bust.
2. Not bad, but I would like a safety here.
3. Very good pick.
4. See above
5-7 Don't know enough about them to say.

James Anderson is a very athletic linebacker- 6'3 225 runs a 4.5 40. Needs to add weight, but could be a special teams monster.

After reading alot more about Manning I realized that he wont be around in the 6th. His stock is really hot right now. Hes a small school prospect out of Abeline Christian. He Originally signed with Nebraska out of high school. The more I think about it I can definately see Marvin taking this guy, it would have to be in an earlier round than the 6th but he can play safety, cornerback, and return punts....all areas where we need help.

SAN ANTONIO -- Former ACU all-America defensive back Danieal Manning increased his pre-draft status last Saturday with a solid performance at the 81st annual East-West Shrine Game at the Alamodome.

Manning, who in December announced his decision to bypass his final year of eligibility, started at cornerback for the West team, which beat the East, 35-31, with a frantic fourth-quarter comeback. The West team was coached by Texas A&M head coach Dennis Franchione, and the comeback was led by Texas A&M quarterback Reggie McNeal. The West defense had to make a final goal-line stand on the game's final play to clinch the victory.

The week of practice leading up to the game might have been just as important to Manning as the game itself. According to several Web reports, Manning's stock has risen significantly in the eyes of NFL scouts. After a strong week of work, Manning was one of two players the game's broadcast crew talked about as players to watch in the pre-game show.

"Two reasons (Danieal) was not on the scouting radar are that, first, he's an underclassman, and secondly, he played at Abilene Christian," analyst Todd McShay said. "But he's a very versatile player. He plays cornerback and safety and he can return kicks and punts. He has a great opportunity to impress NFL scouts today."

Apparently Manning did enough during the week of practice and during the game itself to do just that. According to NFL Draft Scout.com, Manning is ranked as the sixth-best strong safety in the draft. According to nfldraftblitz.com, Manning was the No. 1-ranked small-school prospect on the West roster, and is the No. 3 overall small-school prospect in the upcoming draft.

During Saturday's game telecast on ESPN2, play-by-play announcer Bob Wischusen said that Manning "had really drawn the eye of many scouts during the week." And analyst and former Alabama head coach Bill Curry said of Manning that he was "the most interesting player in the West secondary, just because he's so versatile."

Of the 95 players who played in the 2005 East-West Shrine Game, 90 were on NFL rosters at the beginning of the 2005 season. After an impressive week in San Antonio, it appears Manning is on track to earning a roster spot for an NFL team in 2006.

"We've had more calls about Danieal in the last few days, and scouts have started asking more questions about him," ACU head coach Chris Thomsen said. "Everyone got to see him against Division I competition, and from everything we heard he handled himself really well."

Manning wasn't on the original list of invitees for the NFL Scouting Combine (Feb. 22-28) in Indianapolis, but his performance at the Shrine Game should earn him an invitation on the secondary list.

Manning's 2005 junior season was the continuation of one of the great careers in the history of ACU football. Manning finished the season with 49 tackles (33 solo), two tackles for loss, one sack, four pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three blocked kicks. It was his blocked punt late in the fourth quarter against Northeastern State on Sept. 10 that led directly to a score that allowed the Wildcats to rally from a 14-0 deficit with less than eight minutes to play to beat the Redmen, 20-14, in overtime.

The versatile Manning also returned 19 punts for 243 yards (12.8 yard average) and one touchdown, and returned 13 kickoffs for 349 yards (26.8 yard average) and one score. He also ran the ball nine times for 20 yards and caught five passes for 28 yards. Manning scored 10 touchdowns in his career, including a school-record five on special teams returns. He scored a touchdown via pass reception, kickoff return, punt, fumble return and interception return.

Manning -- a three-time first team all-region selection -- led the Wildcats in interceptions with three and returned one for a 35-yard touchdown against Central Oklahoma. Earlier this year he was named first team all-Lone Star Conference South Division for the third straight season, and in August he was the only active ACU player named to school's all-Century Team.

I question that Marshall is a first round talent. Not only that, but the Bengals have basically said that they are not considering any CB under 6'1" in either free agency or the draft.
