It's available to HS students with email too. I have my HS and college setup on mine. Pretty fancy.
But it wasn't always that way, was it? I thought it originated on college campuses.
Maybe the owners of Facebook decided to expand because they were afraid of the market share they were losing to MySpace.
Yeah, it was originally just a networking tool on some college campus that grew and grew. I dunno exactly when it shifted to high schools too but my HS was probably one of the first. We have a laptop program and kids were on Facebook two years ago, before it got huge.
My impression of this technology is twofold:
It's a fun, free and easy way to secretly keep in touch with your friends, and it's a way to network for flirting about, talking about or arranging to have intercourse with the opposite sex.
I hope my stepduaghter isn't doing the latter.
