Narron Fired
"We haven't talked to anybody," Krivsky said. "My focus has been to decide if we'll make a managerial change. I don't know where those reports come from. There's been a ton of misinformation out there, a ton."
So the Reds decide to fire their manager without any plan of action? They don't even talk to anybody?

Par for the course -_-
Why was Girardi let go after one season with the Marlins ?

Joe Girardi was fired Tuesday morning after just one year at the helm of the Marlins, unable to see eye-to-eye with the team’s owner.

The Marlins skipper had difficulty getting along with Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria. It was believed Loria was prepared to fire Girardi earlier in the season over managing dispute, but what was believed to be a new conference announcing the firing was called off at the last minute, and Girardi was allowed to finish the season.
That's the infuriating thing. By stating in the press conference that they haven't talked to anybody, they are basically admitting that they fired Narron without any thought as to his replacement.
Whatever happened to being positive, coming out and saying that we need a new direction, here's what we're going to do about it, we know fans are upset with the lack of results, here's the new plan, etc.
It's quite disheartening.
If you listened to the press conference, they sounded at times either angry or inconvenienced that they even had to be there.
I sure am glad that we now have a talent scout as our manager though. I'm sure the likes of Dunn and Griffey will be hanging on the new Skipper's every word....

I didn't see this in the thread, but maybe I could have missed.Anyway here it is from Lance's blog.

What I'm told this afternoon
Baseball sources close to the Joe Girardi situation tell me:
Joe has never met with the Reds, never interviewed with the Reds and was never offered the job. I am told a phone call was made to gauge his interest.
Joe is interested in the job. Joe considers the Reds job to have "more meat" than the Orioles job.

I don't think Brandon Phillips should have said this to a writer, even if it's what he thinks.
“On Monday, second baseman Brandon Phillips said the team lacks focus.

"Jerry did the best he could do,” Phillips said. “We had a lot of veterans. If he had different guys in there, we’d have different results. We didn’t make any trades. We didn’t fire anybody, but got him fired.

“We had a good year with Jerry last year, but we had new guys come to the scene this year. He tried to adjust with the new guys this year, but it’s all about certain players. Ken Griffey and his home run chase, Josh Hamilton and his comeback season, everybody got caught up in that instead of winning. We’re happy for Josh, but we want to win. And the next thing you know, Homer Bailey’s up here. We’re a team, and everybody’s worried about three guys.”
Rumor has it Phillips is one of the attitude problems in the clubhouse. Sounds like he's jealous of the attention everyone else is getting

Phillips is a damn good 2nd baseman, but if he's jealous of other players on the team he can cry me a fucking river.

What that its Griffey and Hamiltons and Baileys fault for all the attention they get? Should they just play bad so they dont get any attention?

what are you talking about, thats not waht hes saying at all.

hes saying there too many distractions and there is no one there to keep everyone focused on the real goal, making hte playoffs. narron tried, but he was such a good guy everyone took advantage of him. only a few were smart enough to realize how to act like professionals.

Was talking to a friend of mine and he hit the nail on the head on the Narron firing, everyone knows Narron sucks but he is just a small part of the problem he said "Its like putting a band aid on a gunshot wound"

 I 've heard that before but thought it was fitting of the Reds situation

Red rover, Red rover

Jerry Narron is replaced as manager by Pete Mackanin

Talk about irony. Two decades ago, Mackanin was one of the quick risers on the list of hot managerial prospects. Then he ran into a road block in the Reds organization. He managed Triple-A for the Reds from 1990-92. He was let go when word got out that he was allowing players to use a picture of then-Reds owner Marge Schott on the dart board in the minor league clubhouse.

Mackanin is no shrinking violet. He's made his feelings known, to ownership, the front office and the players. And it is going to be interesting to see how he handles the mess that is the Cincinnati roster.

Odds are he won't get much of a chance. Former outfielder Paul O'Neill is an ownership favorite, and is in line for a job on the coaching staff. He's also close with Joe Girardi, and the word surfaced in Cincinnati (is it wishful thinking or the truth?) that one reason Girardi was willing to walk away from the Baltimore managerial job is he feels the Reds provide a better situation.

Face it, Narron never had a chance. The Reds tried to use mirrors last year, bringing in a bunch of sore-armed relievers who used to show promise, and they gave up most of their bargaining chips to do it. Narron found himself having to mix and match a bullpen that includes three rookies — Marcus McBeth, Brad Salmon and Jon Coutlangus — and a fourth reliever with minimal experience, Mike Gosling, a waiver claim from Arizona.

That's why general manger Wayne Krivsky better watch his back. This is only his second year, but patience is not a virtue with the Reds, who may not spend Yankee-type money, but whose ownership in recent years has shown even less patience than The Boss.

Think about it. They have had four managers in four years. They have had three general managers in four years. Two years doesn't seem like a fair amount of time to judge a general manager, but what Krivksy better realize is that his predecessor, Dan O'Brien, Jr., was let go after two years.
