I just don't like snakes. Same as Indiana Jones. I had a bad experience when I was a peanut.

I agree 100%. If you are interested in this stuff, then in college, there will be plenty of courses that will allow you to view this type of operation. But for a general high school class, it was just a waste of time. I am 100% positive that none of this information will ever help someone advance their career. Information learned in college will, and this is just a waste of time. Even interested students, won't retain the actions of the procedure and be able to duplicate it. In order to fully understand it, they would have to spend week upon weeks explaining things to these kids about how to operate, and I doubt that will ever happen. Stupid experiment, especially with the intended audience.
when i was a junior in high school, me and 4 other people in my A&P class went to University Hospital and saw open heart surgery from inside the operating room.  (way too advanced for high school but still very educational)

Watching a vet open up a dog's abdomin to see its digestive system at work is not too advanced for seniors in high school.

I am a sophmore right now and i am going to see an open heart surgery next week. As part of a medical field expireince. There are about 20 of us going which will be cool. And since i want to be a surgeon this will be a great expirience.

It was a good experience. i know 2 of the people i went with are finishing medical school and im pretty sure another one is becoming a chiropractor so this stuff really does influence people.

Sheesh people. My wife is a daughter of a vet. She has witnessed many operations from early on in life.

This operation was done by a vet outside of the school. The dog was to be put to sleep anyway.

Students take many field trips. 1st graders might go to the zoo. Do they remember every animal they saw at the zoo. No. 3rd graders might go to a museum. Do they remember every bit of information they saw there and retain it? No.

So, we should not allow students to have permission to witness something such as this. It may spark someone's interest and push them into doing something with his/her life. Let's not ban field trips just because you feel that it is a waste of time.

And one other thing to add. My wife calls this an exploratory surgery. It is good to do this on animals that are being put to sleep. Basically, it's good practice for when someone's beloved pet is brought into the animal doctor. The vet will know exactly what to do. Those of you who complain, well, don't bring your pets to the vet anymore, since they are so cruel and unusual...

Why are they putting the animal to sleep anyway? It was living on its own, correct? It could get food on its own. So since it didn't have an "owner", we decide that it's ok to just MURDER it? I mean, just how fucked up is our society?

You're right.... We should let aggressive dogs roam the streets in packs.

LOL, in Bangladesh they have open season for hunting wild dogs. Animals can overpopulate and mess up the ecosystem. Or just be plain harmful to people walking down the street. It's ok to kill some of them off, even dogs.
