Joey Votto agrees to 10-year, $225 million deal with Reds

My first response was to jump out of my chair and holler in joy and amazement.. Then I read the details and started to get a little concerned.. Don't get me wrong Votto is one hell of an offensive player who may well be worthy of the term "Great" before long.. But I worry about the wisdom of a small market franchise sinking this kind of money into 1 guy.. And this contract will continue to be a huge part of the payroll even when he is in his late 30's.

I sure hope they will have the bank roll to continue putting other pieces in place around him. and that he continues to play at a level worthy of this compensation.. Otherwise it's going to be a long decade.

if true, that makes this deal much more affordable for the Reds in the future.
