-GoBengals- Posted November 20, 2024 Report Posted November 20, 2024 A shorter one, and an easier one. QB's: Joe Burrow Jake Browning Logan Woodside Joe Burrow Age: 27 (turns 28 in less than 2 weeks) Contract: Cap hit goes from 29 to 46 mil in 2025, under contract THROUGH the 2029 season, with an out after the 2027 season netting 15 mil hit at that point. Thoughts: Joe is a top 2 QB in the league, his only blemish is his health, when healthy and on the field good things happen with the offense. There isnt much to say here, he isnt going anywhere, and he is very fucking good. His salary ranges up to 53.5 before a huge jump to 68 mil in that 2029 season, but by 2029 with the way the cap is going QB salaries may be well over 75mil a year, as big as his contract is, the team did a good job eating up a chunk of dollars early, at least cap wise, to allow them not to be QB cash poor later. Jake Browning Age: 28, turns 29 before next season, holy shit again. both backups are older than i thought. Contract, makes about a mil, under contract through the end of 2025 Thoughts: Jake is a solid backup with a strong accurate arm. With proper weapons he can play well, he is more like andy dalton with an arm than he is like joe burrow, he requires weapons, he is never the weapon, as Butch would put it. Great to have behind Joe, but with the contracts piling up and weapons needed, i find it hard to imagine that the bengals wouldnt be better served trading an affordable player to a team with a young or old or often injured QB, its hard to imagine the Panthers, or patriots, or Titans, or dolphins wouldnt be better off adding someone like Jake for either a fill in starter or a risk leveraging backup. I think someone would be willing to give a late 2nd or early 3rd, or even a 4th & 5th for a solid good arm smart backup. I could see him having a longer career as a coveted backup journeyman, making 8mil a year for the next 6-7 years. Does he have the smarts and the ability to help coach young players? that i dont know, and thats often saught after in teams in need of a guy like Browning, but I would love to think a WR/CB/OL/DT/CB in the 2nd or third in place of having a Jake browning on the roster would be a win, and i think its a win/win, bengals get assets, and jake gets a shot and likely a bigger stack of cash. So even though i like the safety net, id rather have some draft capital or assets in return. I hope the bengals move Jake in the offseason Logan Woodside Age: 29 (turns 30 in 2 months) holy shit Contract: 1 year 1.1mil deal, ends after 2024 season, practice squad player. Thoughts: Well, he is a PS qb, virtually anyone can do this role, its a $500k-2mil job, so never a cap issue, looking for someone who can be versatile on scout team reps, and in the worst emergency ever in a game, come hand off and try not to die out there. If Joe and Jake go down, the first thing the bengals do is find a vet to bring in, so Logan is never the plan. 1 Quote

I agree. *** The BBC would like to apologize for the following post... *** Not that I'm looking ahead to next year's draft or anything, but in running mock drafts, I find myself really wishing we had another two 2nd- or 3rd-Rd picks. Teams that are already sitting with multiple 3rd-Rd picks are SF, NO, NE, Mia, LAR, LV, KC (I wouldn't trade with them), Jax and CFT (see KC). Would the Raiders be a potential landing spot for Browning? Now if we could just find a way to pry one of the Bears' two 2nd-Rd picks away from them. (the Bills have 2 as well, but they're in the same bucket as KC) Would tagging & trading Tee be an option there, or would more be required for a 2nd-rounder, like swapping 1st-Rd picks with Chicago? *** We now return you to reality.... *** 1 Quote

They will still have his restricted rights after next. Trade more likely then? Woodside has some run in the league and might be a surprise backup option long term. He was drafted here. Wildcard is Rocky Lombardi who was our camp arm but will be on the Michigan Panthers roster this year. That could mean nothing but it could mean much needed reps and development for a young QB like that. Quote

Jake is both. so a great fit, BUT, again, if joe is down you are fucked. so does it even matter? 2 Quote
