While less than ideal, the Cincinnati Bengals have a tough road ahead to re-sign standout wide receiver Tee Higgins this offseason, especially with fellow star receiver Ja’Marr Chase just one year away from free agency.

Higgins, who played the 2024 season on the franchise tag, will be an unrestricted free agent again this offseason, and it’s hard to see him getting the tag for a second straight season.

If Higgins hits the market, he will be the most coveted receiver available. Thus, there are several potential landing spots, but CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani projects Higgins to land in the Nation’s Capital.

Dajani projects Higgins will sign a four-year, $108 million deal with the Washington Commanders, who went 12-5 this season with rookie quarterback Jaden Daniels and are set to play as the No. 6 seed in the NFC Playoffs.

“Since Washington hit on Jayden Daniels, general manager Adam Peters understands his “Super Bowl window” is open right now. He made the aggressive move to acquire New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore at the trade deadline and could make one or two splash moves this offseason. Our prediction is that Washington signs former Cincinnati Bengals wideout Tee Higgins in free agency to a four-year, $108 million deal that carries an AAV of $27 million,” Dajani wrote. “That would put Higgins in the top 10 of highest-paid wide receivers currently.”

While no Bengals fan wants to see Higgins leave, it would be an easier pill to swallow if he lands in the NFC.

The Bengals could offer 26 per 4 yrs and he stays.

Good deal for both in the long run and JB is a happy camper..

I'm also leaning towards that non-exclusive tag as Go suggested.  It'd let them kick the can for another year at a set cost while they negotiate extensions for Chase & Henderson with a fair amount left over to go shopping with in FA.  Worst case it's a pair of first round picks & they can still do something for him long-term without a bidding war.  Tee might not like it but for north of $25M guaranteed I think he'd get over it.

Pretty much all franchise tags are non-exclusive. I think the last time the exclusive rights tag was used was by the Saints for Brees. But the last time a team signed away another team's non-exclusive player without their cooperation and paid the 2 first round picks was way back with Sean Gilbert in the last century. Nobody would pay 2 firsts for Tee. There might be teams that would pay that for Ja'Marr. If the team intends to keep both Tee and Uno, they could strike extensions with either now. Only catch is they don't have any more 2024 season cap space as they rolled it into 2025 last week. So they can't pay signing bonuses until the new league year starts in March. They could sign a contract now with bonus payments due then but teams like to wait on that in case the player is in a car wreck or something over the next 2 months.
