What about TE ??????
"a pass catching TE brings nothing to the table"

sure it does....it keeps safties honest (less double/triple teams) & keeps teams from sending all their backers in to blitz (less QB pressure)!!
While I'd like to agree, I'm pretty sure Marvin knows the affect a TE has on a defense.

Sean Brewer???

Didn't turn out too hot - though I don't think he was drafted to groom. I think he was drafted to start.

did you just say "triple teams"?

with chad, tj and henry on the field, no one isgetting triple teameed, hell with just chad and tj, no one is getting triple teamed, in fact, im not sure that I have ever seen anyone triple teamed (except in pornos).

a RB out of the back field is just as dangerous and accomplishes all of the "less pressure" symatecs, and we have 2-3 of those currently on the roster.

who do we stopthrowing to to throw to a mediocre TE? chad? tj? perry? henry?

our sick receivers keep safeties honest and out in coverage. you do an all out DB blitz on us and your getting smoked for a TD. you cant possibly cover our receivers as it is.

another TE brings nothing to the table, at least not that we dont already have.
As of now we have NO reliable 3rd WR (until 9th game) or pass catching TE.....its not about more yards, its about spreading the field (ala Colts...ala Pats)!
HUH???

No reliable 3rd down WR?

You been smoking Henrys ganja or what?

Yeah, TJ and/or Chad aren't reliable 3rd down WR's at all... :boring:

There's no way to prove it of course, but I don't believe the Bengals would've taken Patrick with either pick in round seven anyway.
yes, he came out, someone sked if we would draft a TE.

he said we already had one, would you rather throw the ball to chad or tj, or to a tight end? then he laughed...
its not like if we draft a TE we are going to pass more, we have a top3 passing game in the entire nfl.

a pass catching TE brings nothing to the table.
You are completely wrong here. A pass catching TE and a pass coatching RB give the offense a safety valve should things break down. Did we have that last year? Pery and Perry were both hurt and we lack a pass catching TE. The wideouts run long developing plays.

the only reason the colts used TE's more is because stokely was hurt all year, the year before only 1 TE had 20_ catches and a whopping 4 TD's

and their top 3 wr's have 12, 5, and 1 TD's.. our top 3 had 7,9,9

the ptriots didnt even have a 800 yard receiver, and thier #2 top receiver was their TE.

the only teams who use a TE alot, dont have good WR's. marvins words, not mine.

Marvin is going to try to make his current situation look as best as it can. And Marvin can be wrong.

Well, that and if you check the time stamp, Patrick was already picked by the Cards.

Do you really think the offense was that great last year? How many games did we not score twenty points and lose? Patriots, Bucs, Colts and stealers off the top of my head. This offense was not the offense of 2005 last year....because we did not have a safety valve.

If Marvin didn't like his current situation, he's had plenty of chances to change it. Yet he hasn't. Marvin can be wrong, but this is obviously his honest position. He was a defensive coordinator for many years. It's pretty obvious that a pass=catching TE didn't cause him too many sleepless nights.

yes, year after year, he foolishly skips the one peice holding us back from a championship and successful offensive unit.....a pass catching TE.

without it. we are nothing.

That was because we were riddled with offensive line injuries and Palmer had a ton of rust to shovel off. Not being able to work during all those minicamps really hurt the passing game...but not enough that he still couldn't rack up 4000 yards via the air.

I would be really happy if we could repeat the success we had in the 7th round last year. We got a special teams star who might eventually develop into a solid defensive player and a WR who should have a good chance of making the team and eventually developing into a good player.

I guess at this point, I would be glad to get two extremely raw guys who I have never heard of than some guy who is well known but slid for a reason.

i guess pass catching TE's resolve o-line protection problems now too?

palmers "rust" was minimal, but his lack of protection was a clear and obvious issue.

Might want to do it again then.

He wasn't saying Chad and TJ weren't reliable on third down (which you were talking about), he said we had no reliable 3rd WR right now with Henry out for the first 8 games.
