And who gave those grades ?

Would you like to have a DT that averages 40.5 tackles
and 6.25 sacks a year ?

Well that`s what Dan Wilkenson averaged while he was a Bengal.
And he was given a D-

sec is better hands down, and i'm a bigten fan, to many powerhouses in sec, florida, auburn, tennessee, lsu,

the only powerhouses in bigten are ohio st, and michigan, sure iowa, minnesota, and wisconsin are all good teams year in and year out, but they aren't powerhouse teams

sec has a ton of pro players big ten has some but sec is def hardest conference in college football exactly why auburn should have played in the national championship, anyone who goes undefeated in the sec should have a shot at the national championship

I thought that it would be interesting to check out the conference rankings with Sagarin (computer rankings): His conference rankings include ALL teams in each conference.

Based upon that, the Big-10 was the 4th best conference this past fall and the SEC was the 5th best. The best conference was the ACC; Pac-10 was 2nd; Big-12 was 3rd.

The Pac-10 had four top-30 teams, while the other 4 conferences mentioned here each had five top-30 teams. These five conferences had 24 of the top 30 teams.

ACC
7- Va Tech
9- Miami
16- Fla St
22- Va
25- Ga Tech

Pac-10
1- USC
2- Cal
13- Az St
17- Ore St

Big-12
3- Okla
8- Tex
14- Tex Tech
23- Tex A&M
28- Ok St

Big-10
12- Iowa
19- Mich
21- OSU
24- Purdue
27- Wisc

SEC
2- Aub
11- Ga
15- Ten
18- LSU
30- Fla

Just wanted to provide some informational data -- I've no desire to "discuss" the relative merits of one conference vs. another.

Hey he was first overall. I'd say disapointing. I thought about giving him anywhere between a B- and a D-. But then factored in his position. Like I said, it was very unscientific. Granted when you factor in the big sack years he had...he had 8 one year, led all tackles, I should move him up to a C+, B-

Aren't you guys surprised by the low number of Big 12 picks? We've had 141 draft picks since 1990, and only 7 were used on Big 12 players? For a major conference, I found that ratio quite low.

However, the relative lack of success that Conrhuskers experience in the pro's lately might explain that. Pro scouts might feel a lot of the success in that conference is system based rather than the players.

C'mon guys we are from Big 10 country, but we all know the SEC is the best league for NFL talent, they put more pro's in the league than any other conference. The Big 10 is like the 3rd or 4th best conference when it comes to putting guys into the league. The Big 12 and the ACC put more guys into the league than the Big 10.

I'm a Ohio State fan, but besides them, Michigan and Iowa; you rarely see guys from the Big 10 in the pros. You get a Penn State, Minnesota, Indiana, or Wisconsin guy in there every now and again.

The SEC recruits heavily in south and that were most of the big, fast, and strong atheletes are from. You can't coach speed and that's what the NFL teams covet. Big 10 football is historic and the OSU/Michigan game is the best rivalry in college football, but they haven't been producing top atheletes for the past 5 years.

I wouldn't mind seeing an all Florida roster with some Ohio guys sprinkled in there to give a local flavor.

Also you can't really judge a conference based on how to team perform in a bowl game, if that was the case then the Pac-10 would be better than the Big 12 and that's just crazy. The Pac-10 has 2 or 3 decent teams a year, the Big 12 has 4-5 decent teams a year.

Smoov, we may disagree in the General forum, but you're spot on here...which was the original intent of Dealer's post...The SEC doesn't have the tradition the Big Ten has, but they do seem to evolve more NFL-ready atheletes...

This thread was about Bengals from years ago also. ex. J. Francis.

If your post is to present the big ten as only Mich and OSU as being good. Think again.
There is only one thing sure about the big ten that sux. That is IU football.
We had Randle El. But we are the only pereniall dark cloud in the conference.

Every other school has had two - seven "good to well above ave." seasons in the last ten years. I'll give you Minn and Northwestern are below par. But they have something to give every once in a while.
