computer keeps stopping downloads....

Recommended Posts

ok so while staying with my sister, trying to download any decent sized file, from anywhere, a few minutes into it.. it says "cant read source file" and ends the download, and no matter what download manager, etc, it wont resume it...

i thought it was my sister lame internet connection, they have a 5mb connection and there were often 4 of us sharing it, etc..

i know its not the server side as i even tried download stuff from MY server, and it did the same..

i tried with wifes computer, and it worked fine... WTF..

she has a macbook pro 13" i have a 15" same exact OS< same exact browser and version
this also happens on every browser type, firefox, safari, and chrome for Mac...

so its something on my macbook pro...

wtf could it be?

little snitch acting a fool?

i cant figure it out?

suggestions?
/Users/ryanmckibben/Desktop/BengalsVideo1.mpg.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

Try again later, or contact the server administrator.
thats the exact code im getting...

but works perfectly on other macbook, same connections everything.

A. Did you reboot?

B. Did you clear the cache on your browsers?

C. Try disabling IPv6 (System Preferences | Network | Whatever connection you're using | Advanced | TCP /IP | Configure IPv6: Off

D. Does it do the same thing on wireless and ethernet?

Well shit...

Might want to hit the Apple support forums on this one. There's a particular file in the Library that you can delete (and it will be regenerated) but I've had a bit too much scotch to remember at the moment.

Only thing I can recommend at this point is to download Onyx, run the scripts and see what happens...

Try this:

Shut down FF, and go to users/your account/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/somefuckedupfoldername.default and delete the file compreg.dat

See if that works...

I'm suspecting that the other browsers might be piggy-backing off of FF's framework.

Just taking a shot at this point...

Go to Applications/Utilities/Console.

Take a look at the log files and see if you can see any message related to the download. Let me know if you see anything (you should); that will help me track down WTF is going on...
