How far into the game do you have to get before the dlc mission is available?
Pretty sure as soon as the galaxy map opens up you can do it. Its listed as Priority: Eden Prime, I believe.

And holy crap. That ending...I am not okay with that ending.

Yeah. I'll show you a link that points out everything thats just...wrong with what Bioware did with the ending when you're done. Still a fantastic game. The last couple missions are just epic. What they did creating this whole series has been a great achievement for gaming.

Came across this at toucharcade, and thought of you guys:

'Mass Effect 3 Datapad' Now Available for Free

posted March 13th, 2012 7:52 AM EDT by Jared Nelson inApplications, Free, News, Release, Universal

I'm sure many of you out there have spent the past week burning through your allotment of sick days at your job so you could spend all day with the shades drawn hunkered down on your couch in front of Mass Effect 3. If this describes you and you have an iOS device to boot, then you're probably going to want to grab the free Mass Effect 3 Datapad [Free] which has now gone live in the App Store.

We learned a tiny bit about the Mass Effect 3 Datapad last month, and the app description makes it sound like the companion app to the console title is actually even more feature-filled than we originally thought. You'll can check out codex entries from all three Mass Effect console games to learn more about the lore. There are also videos, screenshots, and a news feed on all things Bioware andMass Effect.

Most interestingly, the Mass Effect 3 Datapad app can interact directly with the console game. After meeting certain characters in Mass Effect 3, you will receive messages in the iOS Datapad app. Nothing integral to the enjoyment of the console game, but rather additional fan service for those that want to explore even further. Also, you can deploy ships in the app's Fleet Commander which can increase your chances of success against Reapers in the console game. Pretty neat

The Mass Effect 3 Datapad is free and a Universal app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad so if you're into the Mass Effect universe, are currently playing Mass Effect 3or plan to in the near future, you should definitely give the app a download.

Oh, bro. The story fucking gets intense. Once you start having to talk to all the races and try to figure out how to get them to agree on issues to help the war effort. It's crazy. Plus you randomly see cast members from ME2. Let me say this, Thane....Thane is involved in one of the most badass moments I've seen in a long time. It reminded me of Raiden in MGS4. And the Illusive Man has this assassin who pretty much just ruins your day. Like this guy is a badass. Complete fucking badass. I want to take him down so bad.

This is me right now. Damn dude is tough.

I just finished the game last night. Bioware I am dissapoint.

I do not plan to replay the game. I am not sure I will even bother with multiplayer.
Yeah. Haven't been bothered with any games multi player in forever. The ending..meh. The part on earth leading up to it and right before the final choice was still incredible. The ending was like...you're eating this fantastic fucking dinner. Just delicious. Incredible steak with all these fancy sides and shit. You're done with everything except the final piece of steak. You put it in in your mouth expecting to end the meal fantastically... And the steak takes a shit in your mouth.

Somehow..it just does lol

Gonna try and finish this today, but BioWare has released a statement on the ending apparently.

BioWare Breaks Its Silence on the Mass Effect 3 Ending

Many that have played through BioWare's epic conclusion to Mass Effect 3 have been a little disappointed by the, um epic conclusion part. Thousands of players from around the world have expressed their displeasure with the choices that the studio made, and many feel that the original promise of the game was not met. Regardless of your feelings, it's hard not to notice the lack of closure that the ending(s) provide. On Wednesday this week, BioWare broke its silence on the subject, and in a statement released on its website, co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka said the development team is working on "game content initiatives" to answer lingering questions and provide fans with more closure. Specifics about those initiatives are expected next month. "We're working hard to maintain the right balance between the artistic integrity of the original story while addressing the fan feedback we've received," Muzyka said. "This is in addition to our existing plan to continue providing new Mass Effect content and new full games, so rest assured that your journey in the Mass Effect universe can, and will, continue." Muzyka stressed that BioWare is listening to all of the feedback it has received, provided it is constructive instead of destructive.

Whether you feel strongly about the game's ending or not, the fact that it is able to elicit such a strong reaction from fans at allis deeply significant to video games in general. Very few titles have ever flared passions to this degree, so this is an important part of the growth of the medium. Fans aren't the only people with concerns about the issue though; other game developers have started to express themselves on the topic too. BioShock creator and Irrational Games founder Ken Levine said that he is saddened by the Mass Effect 3 ending controversy. Speaking at the Smithsonian's "Art of Video Games" exhibit last weekend, the longtime designer called the situation "an important moment" for the industry. Levine said fans will be let down if BioWare decides to craft a different ending to Mass Effect 3. He added that if the studio does design an alternate ending, neither BioWare nor fans will be satisfied. "I think if those people got what they wanted and [BioWare] wrote their ending they would be very disappointed in the emotional feeling they got because…they didn't really create it," he said. "I think this whole thing is making me a little bit sad because I don't think anyone would get what they wanted if that happened."
The week ended with more drama; The Retake Mass Effect ChipIn charity drive ended Thursdayafter the charity for which it raised $80,000--Penny Arcade's Child's Play--asked it to pull the plug. Penny Arcade writer Jerry Holkins addressed the issue in a post on the web comic's main site last night, saying there was a good amount of confusion among those who were donating to the cause. "Apparently some of the people giving to the cause seemed to think that they were paying for a new ending to Mass Effect," Holkins said. "[Child's Play's project manager has] been asked what the goal is, and how much they need to raise in order to get the ending produced. We've also been contacted by PayPal due to a high number of people asking for their donations back. This is in addition to readers who simply couldn’t understand how this was connected to Child's Play's mission. We were dealing with a lot of very confused people, more every day, and that told us we had a problem."
In a post on the Retake Mass Effect page, the ChipIn fund's organizer (who goes by Robb on the site) explained why he chose to comply with the request. He also anticipated the reaction of the fund's supporters, saying, "There will be conspiracy theories regarding this. Many of the public statements by Penny Arcade have been dismissive or outright derogatory of our effort. I believe this is a failure on their part to understand our issues, but they are entitled to their opinion. Regardless, I want to stress that I do not believe for one second that this is an attempt by anyone at Penny Arcade to silence this movement."
If you're just sick of hearing about the whole thing, or you're so distraught by the news that you can't face playing the game any more, take some pleasure from the unusual news that you will soon be able to wear N7 armor in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Yeah. Weird huh? Kinda cool though.

Ok I finished this.

I didnt hate the ending, I just felt like they didnt flesh out this part of the story very well, which made what could have been a decent ending fall very flat.

A decent epilogue, at least.

Which sucks that I need to pay them to get a proper ending. DLC fucking sucks, man. They nickel and dime the shit out of us for everything this console generation. What happened to expansion packs? Like, c'mon? 15 for 2 maps and a gun? This shit is retarded.

If you decide to play it again, when making your character, enter the following code to make him look like Obama :)

New DLC to expand on the ending is official, its going to be free too.
Looks like BioWare might be capitulating to fan outrage over how "Mass Effect 3" ends. (If you don't know yet, don't spoil yourself lest you, too, freak out and stop playing.) The game makers have announced that they'll be releasing a DLC called "Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut" this summer - and it'll be free.

The whole point of this DLC - which consists of "additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes" - says BioWare, is to "give fans seeking further clarity to the ending of 'Mass Effect 3' deeper insights into how their personal journey concludes."
So, like, reading between the lines...they'll try to explain why the frak they decided to do what they did to Shepard. Doesn't sound like it's going to change the way the game ends, but it might ease some of the annoyance.
Here's the official word, emphasis ours:
“We are all incredibly proud of 'Mass Effect 3' and the work done by Casey Hudson and team,” Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder and GM of BioWare, said in a statement. “Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding. With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team’s artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe.”
Casey Hudson, executive producer of the Mass Effect series added, “We have reprioritized our post-launch development efforts to provide the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the ending of the game, in a way that will feel more personalized for each player.”
"ME3: Extended Cut" will be for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. It'll be free through April 14, 2014 and you'll need an XBL or PSN account to get it.

 • 2 weeks later...

I played this game through Easter week and couldn't put it down. Ended up beating it after the 4th night of 10-12 hr play sessions. I was seriously a little depressed about the ending... all these years through the trilogy....you invest a lot into your Shepard, the decisons you make, the relationships you've built with your crew and LIs. The ending just took all that and threw it all away. I hope the DLC will be worth it; I've read that the voice actress for the female Shepard hasn't been contacted for any new recordings, but there are indications that Bioware may have planned this and already have things set in place. No other game/game series I have played ever had such an emotional affect on me; hands down, arguably the greatest video game series.

BTW, the multi-player (if you haven't figured it out yet) plays a role in how effective your EMS is at the end of the game and thus actually affects a piece of the ending in the "Red" ending.

Also, if you haven't read about it, fans have come up with a great theory to the end that makes complete sense and made me feel better about it.... my hopes are that they incorporate this or at least something similar:

On a side note, Yvonne Strahovski - the actress who is the model and voice for Miranda - is a goddess. That Australian accent drives me crazy.

They are asked about that theory here but kind of avoid the question (part 3)

Yeah they haven't confirmed it but won't dismiss it either. Doubtful that they'd say either way - they don't want to give anything away.
