GEORGETOWN, Ky. _ In a tuneup for Friday’s intrasquad scrimmage, the offense put on a show here at Wednesday night’s practice in scoring on all but one of their goal-line plays during training camp’s first extended live action. The highlight was running back Chris Perry’s leaping play-action fake into the line that set up quarterback Carson Palmer’s three-yard touchdown run before a large crowd destined to be part of a record attendance summer.

Also Wednesday night, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis gave every indication that wide receiver Peter Warrick isn’t going anywhere until he tells the club he’s ready to return to practice without needing to take days off.

After running back Rudi Johnson scored twice while barely getting touched on the goal line, he came back to the sidelines shaking his head, “Too easy, too easy.” Perry also scored up the middle and tight end Matt Schobel was wide open in the end zone to catch a TD flip.

After a lot of good natured kidding, defensive tackle John Thornton, whose first unit was on the field for the first three plays, put it in his perspective. It was the first unit that stopped the first play, throwing Johnson for a loss on an edge play.

“We’ve been kicking their butt all camp,” Thornton said. “We’ve been playing well as a defense. I’m not going to worry about this practice and say we’re messed up. We’ve made progress. . .We had some young guys in there. We’ll look at the tape. We’ve got some guys not where they’re supposed to be, but today’s practice is no different than the first nine.”

Safety Anthony Mitchell vowed Friday is going to be better.

“Anytime it’s live, your side of the ball has to be competitive,” Mitchell said. “You always want to win even though it doesn’t always work out that way, but you want to balance it out and I think the offense had more than we did today. We’ll come back on Friday. You can’t get too caught up in what happened tonight.”

Perry continues to impress. Even though he complained of soreness after the morning practice, he worked for the fifth straight session and seemed to have no qualms about his pulled abdominal muscles when he launched his body into the air to sell Palmer’s play-action fake without any regard for life and limb.

Then he came back to squirt through the line for a touchdown run. . .

Lewis said he remains encouraged about Warrick even though he has yet to practice on his injured knee. He did say that it’s up to Warrick to tell Lewis he’s ready.

“It’s up to him to tell me he’s ready to start practicing seven days in a row or whatever it is,” said Lewis, reiterating that two or three straight days isn’t good enough. “If he’s in, he’s in. If he’s out, he’s out. He understands that. . .He's worked extremely hard. He's encouraged and excited. . .(Coaches, trainers and Warrick) have to make sure he’s up to the stress of working day after day.”

Warrick said he’ll be back for the Aug. 12 pre-season opener. Asked again about it Wednesday night, Warrick raised his arms in the air and said, “When I come back, I want the headline in the paper to say, ‘Dub is back.’”

But Lewis has made certain the parameters: “He won’t play until he starts practicing.” . . .

After the Bengals third practice of the five-day camp Wednesday, Georgetown athletic director Eric Ward didn’t have exact figures but he said attendance is doubled over last year’s total at this time largely because of the added night workouts.[/quote]

Weird that their is absolutely NO mention of Pollack or his contract status which must mean nothing has changed......Maybe Hobs is taking stance of Marvin when he says, "I can only worry about the guys who are HERE."
