I didn't see TAMU mentioned anywhere in the post you quoted. The SEC was though, which TAMU is a part of. 15 of the 32 players from the SEC were drafted in the first round. TAMU players' football experiance playing in that conference make them more NFL football ready than those that don't have experience playing in that conference with the only exception maybe being playing in the B1G who had 11 players drafted in the first round as well.

For someone publicly crying for financial security, being locked in at $28M with a chance to earn even more seems pretty reasonable. This all of course assumes triangulating agent and team speak to be a combination of the truth.
