Opening Day Tickets

There's a guy down at the stadium already waiting in line for tickets. Click here.

And I was debating whether or not to go stand in line at Meijers at 6:00. This guy's hardcore.

Trying to get tickets for the Reds’ Opening Day?

Good luck.

Some 17,000 seats that went on sale at 9 a.m. today sold out in 12 minutes, a time that shaved 4 minutes off last year’s record of 16 minutes and made the record before that – 26 minutes in 2002 – look pretty pathetic.

At Great American Ball Park, everyone who camped out overnight got tickets, said Reds spokesman Rob Butcher – including the first guy in line, Nick Schanz, 21, who’d been there since Tuesday and confessed to wearing the same pair of Scooby Doo boxer shorts since he last showered, on Tuesday night.

Schanz plunked down $180 in cash this morning and got six tickets and six bucks in change. Then he held those tickets to his face, grinned and hammed for the TV cameras and newspaper photographers that have been after him since he first unfolded a chair outside the ballpark four days ago.

“Everybody gets their 15 minutes,” said Schanz, who’ll be sitting in row 4 to the right of home plate on April 4. “I got my 97 hours.”

Then he went home to shower and work a 12-hour shift at Qdoba.
Some other fans weren’t so lucky.

Lacy Corbett, her 4-year-old daughter, Chelsey, and her friend Dan Wheeldon had stepped in line at 8 a.m. They got to the ticket counter just as the “sold out” cry started to spread through the crowd.

Chelsey was sobbing, more because of the below-freezing weather than missing out on Opening Day tickets, so Wheeldon and Corbett decided to go home to Delhi to buy tickets for other games.

“We’ll get on the computer,” said Wheeldon, who hadn’t worn a coat.

Tickets for remaining home games are still available at ticket counters, online at cincinnatireds.com or by calling (513) 381-REDS (7337).

But if you still want tickets to Opening Day, and you are willing to pay, there are still options.

By 11:30 a.m., eBay had listings for more than 90 sets of Opening Day tickets. For some seats, bids were climbing past $300 each.

If you’re willing to pony up that kind of cash, you can also check out the season-ticket packages at cincinnatireds.com.

The weekday package, which starts at $346 for bleacher seats, and the full-season package, which starts at $673, both include the opener against the Mets, Butcher said.

I didn't get opening day tickets. But I do have tickets for a game down here in Florida.

But DAMMIT, I wasn't thinking! The game I got tickets for is the same day as the Draft!
