BengalsCat Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 THREE-FOUR: The Cleveland Browns would like to switch to the 3-4 defense (three linemen, four linebackers) with new coach Romeo Crennel in place. But the Browns might not have the personnel to make the move. The Cowboys are expected to make the switch from the 4-3 to the 3-4 as their base defense next season and are shaping their free agency and draft plans accordingly. So according to this we are gonna be the only team in our division with out the 3-4 and i think its a good thing...... i dont think we have the lineman for a 3-4 scheme
Guest wat Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 I think switching to the 3-4 is a great idea. We have a plethera of talented young and old LBs to play their positions. JT would an excellent 3-4 DE. Justin Smith and Clemons would switch on the other DE side. We could also draft Shaun or Dan Cody to play the other side in the future. All we need is to find a good nose tackle.
BengalsCat Posted February 21, 2005 Author Report Posted February 21, 2005 Yeah we would need more then 1 nose tackle though because they need the rest.. i dont think it would work that smooth though i see our L backers getting eat up by blockers... and us getting run on...
Jason Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 If we go to a 3-4, we better draft Marcus Spears. Otherwise we don't have the DEs to play a 3-4.

However, Bresnahan and Lewis already stated that we will present a 3-4 defense in certain scenarios to create confusion and favorable matchups during games.
BengalsCat Posted February 21, 2005 Author Report Posted February 21, 2005 yes i would def agree with using it as a situational package i just dont think we have the personel to run it all the time

But we do have a LOT of good, young, fast LBs, so I wouldn't be opposed IF we had the right D-linemen, which we don't right now.

Guest Matt_Six Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 I think the Ravens are going 4-3 next season.

fancywhodey Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 we dont have personel now to go 3-4 except in certain situations, wed need a huge d tackle but i do think our lbs are good enough to play it just not our d line
Guest Matt_Six Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 Maybe I was wrong about Baltimore... but I could have swore I saw an article about them switching to a 4-3 because their defensive coordinator left and their old defensive line coach (now D Coordinator) prefers a 4-3... BUT, like I said, I could be wrong.
Palmer4HOF Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 we would get ROCKED with a 3 - 4... we can't even stop the run with a 4 -3.
Guest Matt_Six Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 You need fast linebackers in a 3-4... our linebackers are VERY fast. We would need a nose tackle, which we don't have... Imagine ROL - Simmons ILB - Johnson ILB - Webster LOL - Abdullah/Miller We would have to keep Hardy for depth...
Guest BlackJesus Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 If we don't find a DT over 330 lbs we are going to have to change to the 0-7

Guest wat Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 It worked for the Patriots against Miami on Monday Night.
Kochman Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 Geathers would make a good OLB in The 3-4
Guest wat Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 I think the Baltimore Ravens are switching to a 4-3 for a variety of reasons. THe new D-coordinator prefers it. They cannot replace Ed Hartwell who is leaving via FA. They are losing their 3-4 personnel who have anchored the line and other positions for the last couple years. The personnel on the D-line as of this moment suits the 4-3 better than the 3-4. He should know becuase he is the former D-line coach.
BengalsCat Posted February 21, 2005 Author Report Posted February 21, 2005 Yeah it would make sense.. ray lewis also plays in my opion alil better from a 4-3 because he can be more rangy with the extra man eating up blockers

It could work out well.

[post="49542"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
Actually, ML stated that for most situations he likes the match up of the size of a fourth DL in the 4-3 over the smaller LB in the 3-4. Ideally, I think it would be best to have the flexibility to show both looks depending on the offense you are facing. We already have the LBs, and if we could pick up a nose tackle I like the idea of JT and Geathers playing end in the 3-4. Justin Smith is an athletic end and could even play OLB in certain 3-4 looks, giving us another option in the pass rush, or feinting the rush, and dropping into a zone. Just a thought. Like ML I prefer the 4-3, but would like for us to be able to show a 3-4 when we feel it to be beneficial.
