Recommended Posts

1.) DT Sedrick Ellis, Southern Cal - Perfect pick if he's available. The type of impact tackle we have needed for years.
Strengths:
Very quick with a great first step...Very strong and powerful...A terrific pass rusher with the burst to close...Athletic with good speed...Instinctive...Sheds blocks well and is able to beat the double team...Is technically sound when it comes to using his hands and understanding leverage...Has a non-stop motor...Tough and a very hard worker with top-notch intangibles...Has experience at both tackle positions.
Weaknesses:
Doesn't have the ideal height or bulk that you look for...Has some minor durability issues...Might have some trouble holding his ground at the point against massive blockers...Limited schematically and probably won't be a perfect fit for every team.

2.) RB Matt Forte, Tulane - Big bruising backs with quick feet and good hands are rare.
Strengths:
Has excellent size...Real versatile...Tough and physical...Very good blocker...Great vision and instincts...Runs hard and with power...Does a nice job in short-yardage situations...Good hands and he can catch the ball out of the backfield...Productive.
Weaknesses:
Lacks great timed speed and quickness...Needs to get stronger...A 'tweener who may not have a true pro position...Is not explosive or a big play threat...Won't be a traditional lead blocker...Not real elusive...Has some durability / health concerns.

3a.) WR Lavelle Hawkins, California - Dominated the Senior Bowl practices and games.
Strengths:
A great athlete...Good body control and ball skills...Tough and will work the middle of the field...Plays faster than he times and can separate...Explosive...Is quick and agile...Elusive and runs well after the catch...Can also contribute as a return man.
Weaknesses:
Size and bulk are just average at best...Isn't very strong or powerful and will get pushed around...Sub par route runner..Drops some balls and does not have great hands...Marginal timed speed...Is not a finished product..Questionable work ethic.

3b.) OLB Bryan Kehl, Brigham Young - Very athletic weakside prospect. Great character as well.
Strengths:
Adequate size and bulk...Decent athleticism and good timed speed...Is active with nice range...Excellent instincts and awareness...Has a great motor and plays with a lot of energy...Does a nice job in space...Can hold his own in coverage...Capable of delivering the big hit...Hard worker..Smart and mature with premier intangibles.
Weaknesses:
Doesn't really play up to his workout numbers...Has trouble shedding blocks...Just an average tackler...Can be too aggressive at times..He doesn't play with a nasty demeanor...Marginal pass rusher...A little overaged...May not have a lot of upside.

4.) DE/OLB Marcus Howard, Georgia - Freak athlete who is a perfect fit in the 3-4 hybrid.
Strengths:
Outstanding timed speed...Great athleticism...Very quick with an excellent burst..A terror off the edge...Great range and does a fantastic job in pursuit..Superb agility and changes directions well...Has fluid hips to turn and run in coverage...A reliable tackler...Offers some versatility...Nice special teams potential...Has a lot of upside.
Weaknesses:
'Tweener who may have to make a position change...Is either extremely (DE) or a little (OLB) undersized depending on where he plays...Isn't very stout at the point and is a liability against the run..Can be physically manhandled..Struggles to shed blocks...Not a fit for everyone...One-Dimensional...Didn't start until his senior year.

5.) WR Arman Shields, Richmond - Great athlete that can contribute now as a returner and later as a receiver.
Strengths:
Nice size and bulk...Good timed speed and can get some separation..Decent route runner...Excellent hands...Good body control...Is tough and aggressive..Works the middle of the field....Adequate blocker...Consistent and productive...Return ability?
Weaknesses:
Isn't very explosive and lacks a burst...Marginal ball skills...Not a great leaper...Is not very strong or physical...He may have some health and durability issues...Not real elusive and won't do much after the catch...Level of competition is a concern.

6a.) OG Drew Radovich, Southern Cal - Depth/possible future replacement for Williams.
Strengths:
Good size and a large frame...Really strong and tough...Decent range and can get to the second level...Has a terrific motor...Pretty quick...Nice footwork...A excellent pass protector...Smart with great awareness...Hard worker...Has some versatility.
Weaknesses:
Not very athletic or agile...Does not always play with proper leverage...Might lack a killer instinct...Struggles to recover when he's beat...Does not get a great push in the run game...Has to use his hands better...Isn't overly powerful or dominant.

6b.) CB Marcus Walker, Oklahoma - Good nickel or dime back prospect.
Strengths:
Above average athleticism...Adequate size and bulk...Decent speed and quickness with a burst...Is smooth with fluid hips and transitions well...Excellent leaper...Has pretty good technique...A very reliable tackler...Hard worker with solid intangibles.
Weaknesses:
Poor hands and ball skills...Is not overly physical...Footwork is inconsistent...Lacks great strength....Questionable awareness and instincts...Is not really a punishing hitter...Pretty average against the run....Has some health and durability concerns.

7a.) DE/DT Keilen Dykes, West Virginia - Tackle/end prospect that could fill the hole left by Robinson if Fanene gets hurt again.
Strengths:
Adequate size with a large frame and room to get bigger...Has long arms...Offers some versatility..Strong and flashes some power...Real tough and durable..Has a good motor...Decent athleticism...Good range...A hard worker...Lots of experience.
Weaknesses:
A bit of a 'tweener...Might have to bulk up to play inside...Is not stout at the point of attack...Does not always use proper leverage...Isn't real quick or explosive and lacks a burst..Limited as a pass rusher..Lacks a nasty demeanor and killer instinct.

7b.) OLB Malik Jackson, Louisville - Underachiever who had an amazing Jr year and average Sr year. Special teamer with potential for more.
Strengths:
Very athletic...Above average speed...Does a great job in pursuit and has a burst to close...Nice range and can make plays sideline-to-sideline...A good pass rusher and blitzer...Fluid and can handle himself in coverage...Big special teams potential.
Weaknesses:
Does not have the size or bulk you look for...Questionable instincts and he's often late to react..Isn't real strong or physical...Too aggressive at times...Not a reliable tackler...Work ethic and motor have been questioned..Had a poor 2007 campaign.

I'm not crazy about all that offense.

I think Rudi will be fine if we go back to the 2003 gameplan on offense.

Honestly, between Perry, Watson, Dorsey, Rudi, and Irons, I just don't know who you would willingly cut if they're all healthy.

At WR, I think our offense will do fine with the Steeler's/Ravens model of 1 WR and a TE with a running game = points.
