The Eagles have reportedly taken the franchise tag off Simon, making him a free agent. “I don’t think it would be an upgrade. I’m sure he might think so, but just by our system, I think we do pretty well,†Thornton said. “We have four or five good (tackles). That’s what the Eagles did. They have five good players. They might not be better than him, but they’ve got guys they can win with, so they keep their $5 million. He’s going to get paid. He’ll go somewhere and get paid. I also think that whatever upgrade Simon could provide would not nearly offset the money it would cost to get him. $5-6million a year + a $10million signing bonus?
