MichaelWeston
Some thoughts 1. DJ Reader is really good. I hope they extend him 2. BJ Hill had way to many snaps and needs someone to partner with him 3. The 3T Veteran FA group is VERY deep. To the point where it is so far the deepest area of free agency. 4. Guys like Carter and Tufele have plenty of upside still and that helps getting a veteran. happyrid
Well done. I think with how much each of the four DL starters are making, they can't afford to spend all that much on another DT. Feels like a spot where they could wait a week or so for the big money contracts to get signed and then see who is left. A one-year prove it type deal for a DT with some pass rush upside who did not get the contract he wanted would make a lot of sense. If not, then a mid-round pick in the draft.

I think we can afford that.
Jamie_B
Unless a Geno Atkins type is sitting there for them I don't think they move on 3-tch. I thinkit's much more likely they try to find a backup NT that can grow into a starter once Reader is gone. I think with Carter coming on at the end they are going to roll with him as BJ's backup
MichaelWeston
If you get another 3T then Reader plays less on passing downs, Ossai plays more edge. I think a pass rusher in the middle will be the goal.

This is the exact thing they are looking at Carter to do, so unless they find a Geno Atkins, I don't see this happening.

Carter isn't starting he is the backup unless Hill gets hurt. He's going into his 2nd year, it's time to give him more work as the backup.
sparky151
They can get Karl Brooks on day 3 of the draft and spend their free agency money elsewhere.
