He's Already Here! Best Case Scenarios...
as for the topic at hand. there is a LOT of talent on this defense. there is a LOT of talent on this O-line as well. its so easy to feel or pretend we have far more bad players on defense than we do. No one seems interested in accepting the reality of the EMENSE number of injuries the defense had. I cant show it any other way than the 3-4 times i have. no one has more impactful injuries, and its DOUBLE the amount of injuries i could find going back to 2013(which is where i stopped) as far as missed games my starters and rotation players. There was the media coverage of the lions injuries. those numbers were falsy inflated by counting special teamers only guys who were listed as corners or a defensive positon but never had defensive snaps in their lives, they counted a euro league 30 yr old guy who tore an ACl in june in camps. etc. then stack the Loud problem, im still pretty frustrated that he spoke publicly putting down young players "needing to hit the playbook" early in the season, come to find out everyone had issues with his schemes and several vets, including Hilton, Wilson, Hubbard all mentioned the last 5-6 weeks it was simplified and everyone was reacting faster and"just playing football". Lou is a mad scientist... but whats the point of a mad scientist if he requires pro bowl caliber palyers for half of his defense sprinkled with vets who know his system. the sign of a great or even good DC is knowing how to use the guys you have. not trying to hammer guys into roles you wish they could do. knowing whatever level i know about football, it seems reasonable that the missed tackle problem and blown coverage issues at least good chunks of them, could be related to slowed reactions overthinking the overly complex defense. as statistically the missed tackles dropped in the last 6 weeks as i pointed out in other threads it seems like the lazy way out for fans to say the bengals cant draft and everyone sucks... but that seems pretty unlikely. Defense: DE: Sack Leader DE: 1st round pick & first round pick backup DT: 2nd round pick & veteran in hill DT: Vet Run stuffer & 3rd round pick LB: Pro Bowl Caliber wilson LB: 2nd round pick LB: veteran FA & 4th round pick CB1: 1st round pick (hill imo) CB2: CTB 2nd round pick CB3: 2nd round pick (turner) Safety1: Veteran Stone Safety2: 2nd round pick Battle IMO: if they just have normal amount of injuries as everyone - we are easily a playoff team IMO: if we had a simplified normal dfense for these guys to run, we are easily in the playoffs IMO: if guys who were young didnt miss games early for injury or Lou bullshit - we easily make th eplayoffs all 3 combined? sheeeeittt... i expect a 12th-16th ranked scoring defense, (we were 3.3 points per game away from that last year.. thats not that hard to imagine. stopping basically 1 fg drive per game..or 1 td drive every other game... etc... averaged giving up 18.8ppg last 5 weeks, includes 2 scrubs, 2 playoff teams, and dallas. gave up 29ppg first 5 weeks, with 2 scrubs and 3 playoff teams as opponents lots of room for optimism.. should be fun watching a bunch of young players develop.

He's Already Here! Best Case Scenarios...
man, neither chase nor joe would have had anywhere near the years they had if it wasnt for the trash defense. they both racked up hella stats wheil the opposing qb handed the ball off to close the game.. so the "burrows incredible year and chase triple crown were wasted" feeling isnt all that realistic.. if the defense performced well we wouldnt be throwing till the whistle every week, probably dropping 10-15% of those guys stats. mahomes made the superbowl with his worst season in yards and TD's since 2018... im sure we all would have gladly exchanged some of those stats for some stops and wins.. ill agree on the healthy joe year always feels like a waste if it isnt a SB run.. but best player in the league or not.. the nfl is no joke..

Rookie Free Agent Confirmed List
got 6 years in good for him.. shout out to all these guys taking advantage of all these new NCAA rules, for those who dont know, NAIA and JUCO years dont count against NCAA years(for up to 2 years of eligibility), so in theory, you could redshirt at JUCO or NAIA then play 2 years, then go NCAA D1/2/3 redshirt again, then have 4 years of eligibility left. so you could play college sports for up to 8 years, technically. my kid has one redshirt NAIA year and one year played under is belt, gonna play next year and see if he can make a move to either a better school or up a league or both. NAIA and D3 talent levels are very similar. no NAIA school in colorado, but D3 and D2 are here so that would be the best possible outcome for him.

Your Post-Draft Thoughts ?
based on the ratledge comment, which part of these two Guard comparisons do you feel separates him from Fairchild? its really starting to feel like Ratlidge just has a better agent and media hype man.... i cannot imagine his Gap scheme run grade is that meaningful, bengals do split gap and zone run schemes, but even rating the gap scheme, hw many gap run snaps did georgia run? no idea.. if i had to guess id say the bengals run 80-85% zone scheme and 15% gap (pulling guards and such antics) so Fairchild is... better pass blocker better zone blocker, good but slightly lower overall run blocker worse gap run blocker better true pass set blocker aside from PR and big dumb draft boards, i feel like these two guys shoulda/coulda bee drafted one after another . im cool if they reached for guys they like, thats what the draft SHOULD be.. get the guy that fits YOU. but i dont think they did... i just eatched charlie dumbass goldschmidt on the growler and mo egger was like "i see they draft knight and see another LB wasnt even taken until the end of the round or early next round, seems like they could have waited" i dont get how people think.. how is that what that means to him? so he doesnt think half the league needed a LB? the next two linebackers were taken a round earlier than projected.. FURTHER proof that the slim pickins on LB's this draft made each player go higher than the general skill level. you needed to add some talent to LB. if you waited someone else would have grabbed him, insead OTHER teams were stuck picking another position because the bengals got the guy who was best on the board at the time. IMO, the LB values got flushed and guys jump 1-1.5 rounds due to scarcity. sort of how QB's do in some drafts.. good ones will be gone.. gotta take them early just in case. def couldnt get much worse guard play... hope that group all stays healthy, if so we have some talent in there for once.

Rookie Free Agent Confirmed List
very possible overall, i do recall 3 bad snaps, 1 of which Rehkow handled well but fucked timing and we still missed.. but a 1 year deal for a guy who makes nothing is suspiciously low, you coulda given him 3 years low money and no guarantee. not much risk of guys leaving a supposed, but i remember the old duo getting 2+ years at a time until the very end..

Rookie Free Agent Confirmed List
i dunno if the mechnics issues in the FG kicking game was the punter holding or the long snapper (Simmons mentioned it many times during and after the season), but we only gave dude a 1 year deal and just signed michigans long snapper... maybe over thinking, maybe general competition... but i like adding a guy to compete there... never did like the current longsnapper whose name i cant remember right now at 1:30am

*** [RD 4] Bengals Select ~ BARRETT CARTER, LB ***
man i hope so.. he was everywhere lined up in a few of those film reels from youtube.. another versatile guy.. looks good to me. lots of skill and leadership. have they cleaned out pratts locker yet? always a good trait. like every coach ever? or do you think there are coaches ripping their own guys to scouts? which they would all find out about and kill said coach, trash he program etc.. i think you just said it.. yeah this is job interview + references scenario.. you gotta be kidding me dude... jesus christ with this shit. murphy was a projected top 10 pick in some mocks... bengals drafted him 28th. but somehow they didnt have enough scouts or couldnt read through a coaches bullshit and got hornswaggled by the fast talking coach.. god damn dude.. please tell me you dont live like this? fuck the falcons... mom cant be trusted. ok they are from atlanta ill allow it...

Your Post-Draft Thoughts ?
IMO i dont think they need nor will they do any of those things... at Guard, you brought in 1 vet, and drafted 2 guys, and signed back 2 depth guys i dont think you add a 8th guard unless someone is hurt.. similar at DT, you have 4 guys who are going to play, period, there is usually a 5th rotation guy, two UDFA for camp at least, maybe a random vet for depth, or a late summer cut? there is at least room for one here, unlike at guard. Safety is probably set as well, with stone and battle starting and anderson and anthony as teams/backups, al have dax in an odd pinch scenario possibly as well. but i could see an addition, but nothing substantial..

Your Post-Draft Thoughts ?
i voted B, and Carter. I think A grades are for needs at higher value positions and hitting them.. like burrow, chase, tee, etc...Carter is my favorite pick mostly because ive been surprised how much i like his game form the film ive been watching.. seems like a talented guy who can make plays.. he fits the versatility and playmaker moniker we've been hearing form Golden about hwt he wants on defense.. and in the 4th? round thats fun..

*** [RD 5] Bengals Select ~ JALEN RIVERS, G ***
yeah his constnat injuries dropped him... plays great when he is on the field.. missed lots of games all 3 years he played.. hope he can stay healthy, worh the risk in the 5th. what else ya gonna pick a ST WR/RB? i dig this pick a lot. lol its a 5th rounder.. a kicker would have been an OK pick at this point... the hell else could be more than that in the 5th? a QB would have been fine. indeed. PS, ill be in town fri/sat(busy that night) and sunday morning end of may, the 29/30/1st i think? holla if you wanna catch up yeah i like he played decent snap numbers at T and G, competition and depth is always great. the clemson LB looks fun, playmaker type.. a much better chance to contribute than a 5th DT.. im not sure many if any DT's left for us were going to be huge upgrades with 4 guys already locked into spots ont he roster. looking great, keep them healthy and have some good competition. get volson out of here. patrick, Fairchild, Rivers, Ford, kirkland, 5 guys to battle for 2 spots.. should be a solid improvement i dig the draft.. knight was a reach according to projections but the board was baron for LB's he should be good. id say a B draft jesus fucking christ we know.. lets not get exited about anything... dont enjoy anything.. be mad on message boards.. so fun.. the football teams success is my personality... we get the gimmick man. everything sucks all the time.. nothing is enjoyable.. no one should have brightness or optimism... etc.. if guys we never met dont get a trophy we should live in misery... contribute what? being a 3rd RB? special teams? ill take OL depth and versatility and competition over that... from my brain to your keyboard. fingers crossed on the injuries.. i think the combo of jackson and Slaton should be a force vs the run in the middle if they are paired.. but i agree on all counts fairchild is th elock, this guy is competition and versatility.. id imagine Patrick is penciled in on the right until someone can take it away from him.. even ford or kirkland.. maybe cochran.. who knows.. but like having this guy in the mix. cool. id think guard switch easier than tackle switch, but what do i know.. he played both spots so maybe that versatility helps with th eother switch if its needed... could just be T/G depth on the left and thats that. for sure, the competition and then depth resulting from that compatition should yield some fine improvements on the line. all positive vibes coming from this pick.

*** [RD 3] Bengals Select ~ DYLAN FAIRCHILD, G ***
lol so you were singing his praises and the pick with your "average B/C grade level guy" comments? by bad then.. you can like or dislike PFF, but if youre going to compare two guys, if you use the same grading system the grades hold water, right? well one of these guys everyone was jerking off and dying for us drafting in the second round... and one they are mad about in the third round.. and coming from the same team the ratings are even more accurate, same opponents, same games, everything...

*** [RD 2] Bengals Select ~ DEMETRIUS KNIGHT JR, LB ***
yeah im cool with th epick, all the negativity i see is age based which is funny, he can get his 4, and a 3 year extensions to age 32.. thats all we would want anyway.. the age thing is a hit WHEN youve had all those years of game dings and bruises on your body, he had 61 college games under his belt, some covid and injury delays bought him more time, you have some 22 years olds coming out with 45 games played, Campbell played 35 in 3 and is coming in with a huge injury and may not play early on? seems like a bunch of bullshit over a what 1-1.5 seaons difference at the end of his career? that gives it a bad grade? sure he was rated 3rd round, most said early third, there were very few LB's left... so they all bump up... nick martin, the next LB taken in the 3rd... was projected as a 6th rounder.. but no one cares about all that. jack kiser from notre dame taken 5th in the 4th round, is a 5th round projection... they ALL slid up... dumbass mock drafts mean nothing once a position starts to come off the board.. people really just wanna be mad...our first round pick thread of a guy projected from 11th to 29th, and first 5 projections i found are 11,19,16,19,22 overall.. but clowns saying "maYbE tHiS pIcK wILl GeT TObIn FiREd". yeah.. taking a guy EXACTLY where he is projected really puts you on the hot seat... so frustrating he is covering TE and WR well in his videos... NFl leve is different, but id imagine the average TE isnt an issue for him. well if gridiron gastrointestinal blocking gridiron football boyz says so.... ill get the pitch forks boys.

*** [RD 3] Bengals Select ~ DYLAN FAIRCHILD, G ***
71.8 not exactly NO run block.. but much better pass blocker for sure seems accurate calls him pickle that show is a tough listen most days. best pass block grade in college.... and people are mad lol ah yeas, the B/C grade best pass blocking grade in college football... lmao with this fanbase... "if some dickbags mock didnt say he was the best he sucks and im sad" = this whole fanbase.
