So even if you add Palmer`s  $4million escalator it STILL is $17
million under the $ 80.5 million of THIS YEARS CAP.

I got those numbers from here.

http://bengalsjungle.com/players_salaries.html

And from here.

http://www.nflpa.org/Members/main.asp?subP...e+Player+Search
The cap should go up AT LEAST to $85 million next year.

Of course that isn`t counting our own Free Agents(14 players I think),
the 8 players on the practice squad.
They make $73,500 a piece...which is $588,000 total,
the $1 Million we are supposed to be over the cap because
of the players we had on IR this year.....

Anyway from the numbers I could come up with, the Offensive players
are slated to make $27,553,103 in 2005.
The Defensive players are slated to make $29,818,332 in 2005.
Take into account that some of the players all I could find is Base Salaries.
But anyway those numbers should be within $5 million or so on both
sides of the ball...but don`t hold me to it.

Hope that helps and is what you were looking for.

Cutting Hardy, Herring, and Kelley could save up to 5-6 mil, we already have younger, cheaper, and more productive players at all of those positions.

If we get a good safety and TE in the draft or FA then these guys may get cut in order to save money. If we dump the dead weight(expensive guys who aren't producing) then we could re-sign Rudi and TJ and still have enough money to be a major player in FA.

Everyone talks as if we didn't try to get some big name, big $ guys last year, but in fact that is completely false. Most of the big name players were courted by us last year, in turned out to be the right move not to sign any of them. Taylor, Vincent and Sapp were either hurt and/or relatively un-effective for their new teams this year.

If the cap is at 85 mil, then we have enough room to re-sign our guys(Rudi,TJ,Braham, and Watson) and still add a good FA or two. I can't wait to see how everything unfolds.

Smoov,
I think your post proves that a player only has so many years in his body.Signing F/A's over 30 is a risky bet.BTW,add Tony Williams to your CAP savings bank.

Wow, that shocks me too. I would have guessed that the Offense was 2:1 or 3:2 versus the Defense in salary. Wow.

i know kelly can't catch a cold, he's probably one of the best blocking te's in the league... i can see us getting rid of stewart and/or shoebel though, and drafting a more complete te for the future (i hope)...

your right on about the expensive free agents... even deltha got a little banged up... but those other guys didn't do shit...

Watch Marvin this coming season. Marvin is a nice man, BUT he will cut anyone and everyone who gets in his way of saving/making money for new players. He is like a hammerhead shark. He is ALL business. He will make cuts without blinking one eye. If he wants someone for this coming season in free agency, he will get him!

I must say I was uite shocked at Reggie Kellys cap hit. He's not very affective in the passing game. Yes he can block, but that seems like an awful lot of money to pay a guy who can block. That kind of cap hit would be better used with Rudi IMO.

Yeah I think they should cut Reggie Kelly without a doubt.
The past 2 seasons combined he has caught 28 passes for 166 yards
and 1 TD (that he caught last year).
Tony Stewart the past 2 seasons caught 32 passes for 266 yards and 1 TD
(that he caught this season).
The 2 of them combined in 2004 had 25 catches for 132 yards and 1 TD.
The Bengals spent $2+ million for THAT ????
Hell I would think about cutting them BOTH. But Tony Stewart isn`t
making much really and he has been in the system for 3 seasons already.
But Reggie Kelly is NO threat and in no way should he even see that
much money in his lifetime... MUCH LESS MAKE IT !!!!!!

He's another one that needs to be cut, along with Kase, Richardson, Tony Williams, Kelly, that could free up some cap space.

This is what I found.

The franchise tag is the average of the five highest-paid players at the position, and the transition tag is the average of the 10 highest-paid players at the position. If a club designates a player "tagged," the team's salary cap is charged the value of the tag. In some cases, the difference between the franchise price and the transition price is so minimal, it just makes sense to use the higher number.

A "franchise" player is bound to the team assigning him this designation. He can solicit offers from other teams, but can switch addresses only if the team he wishes to join can compensate his former team with two first-round draft choices, or if the teams can work out a trade.

Yeah basically he plays for the money (top 5) or he sits out.
After the tag has been placed on him, he can try to get other
teams to trade 2 first round picks for him...but more than likely
that wouldn`t happen.
