Dual Monitors

Recommended Posts

So yeah, I'm trying to get the two monitors rolling.

This is the product I got. http://www.mct.com.tw/prod/usb20svga.htm

It just won't work. No combination of anything I've tried has worked.

I guess I don't have a video card, or at least nothing special assumedly the motherboard for my 2.79 Ghz Pentium so it's intel's controller that seems to be messing with it.

I hook my TV I'm trying to dual with and it's golden if it's on the Tower's video port, the cabling isn't an issue, both cables work with both monitors.

It's the software I assume. I took all my other USBs out so there wouldn't be too big a load, I've restarted when it said to do so, I don't know what's up. I assume it's the drivers and the the converter hardware.

Let me know if you need more specs.

Suggestions?

you need this:

microcenter, bestbuy, all have them. then just plug that into your PC, then you have two VGA connectors instead of one, plug each monitor into one of the cables and adjust your settings... i didnt know you were still struggling with this... the thing you got, is seemingly for laptops or devices without a vga option taking video through usb to VGA, its rather "roundabout" and likely doesnt have settings capable of running a regular vga in addition to that thing. if it does its likely a pain in the ass to do. the connector i posted is like $8.

well from this store its $15.. but microcenter in tri county has them cheap

FYI, i searched "vga splitter" to get that item in searches..
All the adapters I searched for, that one never came up. I think we even talked about USB to Video adapters.

Anyway,

That one doesn't make sense though, isn't it just gonna mirror the desktops as opposed to extending one?
Hard to tell. Either that dongle has built-in functionality to allow it to span the monitors, or you'll be able to do it in Windows.

If dual monitors is your main goal, why not just get a new VC? You can get a good PCI dual Moniotor video card at Newegg for $35...
That would require me cracking open my computer.

I'm not so hot for that. I've thought about it, but I'd rather not.

Would PCI be what I need?
PCI is usually cheapest.

If you have an older MB with an AGP slot, those cards are cheap(er) now that PCI-E has become the defacto standard...

no, windows will recognize two monitors and allow you to choose extended desktop or mirror. windows is smart. dont listen to these MAC guys..

thats ridiculous.

seriously gentlemen.. this isnt that serious of a process, its likely the easiest thing I have ever done on a PC.

Sounds like a plan, I'll be up at microcenter hopefully tomorrow then.

Gotta figure out what to do with this other adapter now.

As to a printer hub. I'm not terribly familiar with that, but if it's a hub, it sounds like it would multiplex and demultiplex the signal for you, thus it wouldn't be any issue.

With what you showed me it looked like just a normal thru connection and signal splitter one way. Thus my skepticism.

Uh, it's Mac not MAC.

And I've worked with 3rd party addons like that with built-in software that jacked with the Windows' ability to span the monitors (it killed the "extend" function so ).

And I'm writing this on a Core2 box with an NVIDIA 8800 with dual 20" monitors...

If you're going to try and poke someone with a pointy stick about something, :265: at least try to get your terminology correct.

Not my terminology. Perhaphs in writing MAC he was just trying to emphasize a sarcastic voice or maybe even it was an attempt to shout MAC!. It isn't as if anyone on the board didn't understand that he wasn't referring to a MacIntosh computer.

Like I said: Gammar Nazi.

Well, I'm officially frustrated now.

I got the adapter, it was 10 bucks from microcenter, the picture comes up on both screens, but it's just a mirror.

The second monitor showed up, but it was still reading as the VGA/USB adapter, so I disabled it, restarted, and now it just shows one monitor in the properties screen, so there's no place to tell it to extend.

Do you have the "Expand Desktop to this Monitor" checked in Display Properties\Settings?
