Report: TCU to join Big East
The Associated Press • November 29, 2010

A person with direct knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Monday that TCU is moving from the Mountain West Conference to the Big East after the 2011-12 academic year. The person would not comment publicly because the decision had not been announced.

A person with direct knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Monday that TCU is moving from the Mountain West Conference to the Big East after the 2011-12 academic year. The person would not comment publicly because the decision had not been announced.

TCU scheduled a Monday afternoon news conference for "a major announcement involving the TCU athletics program." Athletic director Chris De Conte didn't immediately return messages left on his cell phone.

The school's release said Del Conte would be present at the news conference along with school chancellor Victor Boschini.

The third-ranked Horned Frogs (12-0) wrapped up their second consecutive undefeated regular season and Mountain West title with a 66-17 victory at New Mexico on Saturday. TCU is also third in the BCS standings, the highest for a school from a conference without automatic access into the Bowl Championship Series.

With the move to the Big East, the Frogs will be BCS busters no more. The Big East has one of the six automatic BCS slots for the five big-money games. TCU is currently in line to play for a national championship chance if Auburn or Oregon lose next weekend. The Frogs may wind up in the Rose Bowl if Auburn and Oregon both win.

would be a good move if they want respect.

If TCU really wanted respect though, they would have tried to join the Pac-10 or replacing a team in the Big 12. Don't remember them pushing too hard for that...

Nah. If anything there schedule would get weaker. They would do MUCH more for the Big Least than the Big Least would do for them.

lol their schedule will get slightly better, but not too much these days.

Why not join the Big 12? Too much competition?

Maybe the Big XII didn't want them? IDK. It would seem to make more sense.

I absolutely hate this whole college team moving into other conferences thing. I would hate it even more if I cared much about college football beyond it being a farm system for the NFL and which players the Bengals two scouts are looking at for the next draft...

certainly possible, but you didn't hear anything about TCU wanting to join either, and most info has come out as far as who conferences were looking at, which universities were looking to move, etc...

I just find it funny that with open spots in some of the bigger conferences, they choose to go to the weakest one.
