Movie Review Thread

Anyone else want to do a movie review thread? No plot spoilers. Basic premise, did you like it, etc.

I saw Mr. and Mrs Smith Saturday. For those who don't know, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie play a married couple, both are spies, and neither knows the other is. A lot of action, a fair amount of comedy, a little sexuality, but no nudity. I thought it was very entertaining, though the last fight scene is a little unbelievable. But I thought it was worth matinee price.

Anyone else see any other movies, or have other opinions of this one?

Just saw Batman Begins.

Awesome!

This is what the first 4 Batman movies should have been! Worth full price. Christain Bale does a great job with Batman (easy) and Bruce Wayne (the hard part).

And definitely leaves room for sequels!

Don't you EVER badmouth the first batman movie again.
EVER.

and Christopher Walken was in the 2nd one, so it rocks by default.

Just kidding.

The first one wasn't bad. I wasn't bad mouthing it (but I will if I want too). All I am saying is even the first one, easily the best of the original 4, and not a bad movie, doesn't compare to this one. Two could have been so much better, but there was nothing to tie it together. Three and four (especially 4) sucked.

But this movie was awesome. The original was good, but not awesome.

Wow, I love the previews for Batman Begins. It does look like it can blow the other Batmans away just from the previews. And for some reason, I am in love with that new Batmobile, even though it hardly looks like one anymore.

This isn't meant to be a crack on anyone, more an observation about me.

I wish I enjoyed movies as much as a lot of people do. I just don't. It's just people playing pretend. In the words of Kurt Cobain.. I wish I was like you, easily amused.

Not slamming anyone, I just seldom come away from a movie impressed. Usually disappointed if it's a really hyped movie.

Just me...

Bengal Backer-

I am completely the same way. I hate the hype, the does nothing but make cynical for the release. On the same hand, I'm not really a sci-fi guy. I don't have the ability to suspend my reality for 2 hours, and the big time action films, well, as an avid shooter, I see the glaring gun mistakes, and it does nothing but make me steam in my seat.

Well, I have to say, this new Batman completely kicked butt. Great story, good action, believeable (sort of) physics, the acting was up to par for the movie, and really, for what I was expecting, I walked away VERY PLEASED.
I don't like superhero movies, I don't like summer blockbusters, but, based on a couple of trusted reviewers' recommendations, I took the plunge. And, like always, I was cynical the entire ride to the theatre. My girlfriend HATED me in the car - and, as soon as the lights went out, the damnedest thing happenend. I had a great time. Relax, go see this one. There is PLENTY of GREAT story to have a good experience.

My girlfriend cried during the Batman Begins movie. I thought some popcorn salt got into MY eyes.

:ninja:

I give the two joints up to "It's All Gone Pete Tong - The Legend of Frankie Wild"

It's a comedy about a British DJ who's top of the game, only to lose his earing over the course of a year due to a birth defect. Obviously, he has to keep himself in the game. There are some hilarious scenes in it. Made by the same guys who did Fubar (mockumentary about Canadian rednecks)

If you're into electronic music, there are a lot of cameo's by big DJs and some of the club scenese are hilarious. It's in limited release in theatres now I think.

Another great flick / documentary I saw recently is "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room"

I loved the book, which was a look into the company's running. Especially how Fastow and Skilling ran the place, and portrays Ken Lay as a grandfatherly dude, who is hated by Skilling...and dispatched to the golf course, anytime he asks too many questions.

It's a great documentary, very truthful to the book, worth seeing.

Aladdin
A Goofy Movie
Batman Returns
Gone With the Wind studio edition, or whatever
Billy Elliot
The first Lord of the Rings Movie
Star Wars: Episode I (I was too you to have any sense) and Epidsode II
The first two Harry Potter Movies (I went with friends)
Saving Liberty (long story motivated by avarice/greed/etc.)
Bowling for Columbine (sucked)
Fahrenheit 9/11

I don't get too excited about movied, but there are about 10 that I am wild about

Ok so I got "The Machinist" offa Netflix. I was pleasantly suprised by this movie. It stars Christian Bale and Jennifer Jason Leigh, who both put in fine preformances. Bale lost serious amounts of weight for the picture. If you've seen batman Begins it's hard to believe it's the same guy.

His character hasn't slept for a year and is starting to lose the grip. A strange guy starts showing up at his work,(this guy btw looks like Marlon Brando) , and cryptic notes begin showing up in his apartment. He spends the rest of the movie trying to figure out what the fuck is going on.

Tag line is something like this: "How do you wake up from a Nightmare when you're already awake?"

I liked it alot, has the ol Oakey Doake ending and everything. Movies that stick with ya do something for me and this picture is one of em.

Recommended.

If you check it out, let me know what you think.

If you don't have NetFlix and you enjoy movies your missing out.
