Cincinnati Bengals add local arm to practice squad following Burrow’s season-ending injury

Recommended Posts

Joe Burrow (wrist) suffered a major loss for the season following Thursday night’s game against Baltimore for the Cincinnati Bengals. Cincinnati will now turn to quarterback Jake Browning for the rest of the season after a season-ending sprained wrist  injury.

As a precaution, the Bengals have signed Drew Blitt, a Cincinnati native from Loveland, to the club’s practice squad.  Blitt spent five seasons under center at Ball State.  During his college career, he threw the rock 1,246 times while recording 777 completions for 9,051 yards and 68 touchdowns.  He also had a career quarterback rating of 136.6 for the Cardinals.

Blitt  was an undrafted free agent in the 2022 draft class and participated in minicamp for Cincinnati in May 2022.  He signed a contract with the Bengals on July 27 last year. Blitt was later waived by Cincinnati in August.

Following his time with the Bengals, he moved to the XFL.  He joined the Arlington Renegades last November before dealing with a knee injury. The Cincinnati native will now get another chance to make a name for himself at the highest level of competition. The Bengals will likely give Browning the start, but a short leash will give Blitt the opportunity to do so.

Don't see much in him.
